Big Fire in Kampong Speu

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

When the fire trucks do eventually show up they never use their big water cannons that are on just about every one. (too much work to refill the water?) I have yet to see any fireman with the proper gear and any of the proper fog applicators. The recent fire in SKV by the small market, the first truck at the scene came up a narrow alley where he could have been trapped and the other two that eventually showed up were never in good positions to fight the fire and never used the equipment that they did have. (lucky there was a concrete building between the fire and the wood small market.) When one truck came over by Charley Harpers to refill after the fire, the refill hose had so many leaks that it almost couldn't refill the truck. Where is the Australian NGO that's suppose to help fire departments in Cambodia? Probably ran out of scams and/or couldn't sell equipment and went home to actual jobs.

If you want to know more how this thing works in Cambodia, you can go and ask people who are living around Phsar Ler (Sihanoukville). It is sad to share this with you guys but i think you should know. So when there was a fire at Phsar Ler in Sihanoukville years ago, those fire trucks wouldn't start fighting the fire until those owners of the houses around the market agreed on their requested prices. They are legal robber.

If you know a lot, know enough to make them respect you, if you are stupid, be stupid enough so they can pity you.

^^ Yes, but they are Khmer and know how the system works. Other than that, the fire fighters might have been asked not to put the fire out because the owner wanted to claim the insurance to build a new market.
