Broken Bricks Pub video from Christmas 2007

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Broken Bricks Pub video from Christmas 2007

Post by Rutiger »

I just happened upon this rather crappy-quality video taken at the somewhat notorious Broken Bricks Pub from Christmas Day 2007. I understand Dave the Englsih owner was quite a classic Phnom Penh character right out of "Off the Rails" typecasting that many people on CEO may have known well. The owner's son Heng is on video, and a couple bored-looking bar girls (although one does a bit of traditonal dancing out front). The video itself is surely nothing interesting, but can anyone identify the handful of barangs shown drinking in that video (an overweight English guy with eyeglasses, one middle aged barang barfly woman and at least one baldy American from Los Angeles toward the end)?

As I understand the story , some months after this video was filmed there was a drug-fuelled violent altercation involving the owner and a woman which led to his arrest and subsequent departure from Cambodia and the closure of the Pub. I'm sure someone will be sure to correct me on the facts. Anyway, I saw this video only had some 30 views on Youtube since 2012 so I thought I'd share it. A glimpse at the last remnant of old-skool Cambodia?

Here is some background on the violent incident I referred to. Not sure how accurate any of it is either.

I know a few of them, but so do you, OP.

I doubt the lady in question appreciates some twat labelling her a barfly.

1) I don't know them, although they do look somewhat familiar. However, that video is nearly 10 years old now.

2) bar·fly

noun, informal
a person who spends much time drinking in bars
