I'm reading the Keith Richards' autobiography LIFE and getting into some old Stones stuff:
Loads of great nostalgia music. The days when we were young and didn't give a fk.

Hey Ghost, you good? Just trying to get my head around this...
(KMFDM - Juke Joint Jezebel)
I bet you do...it's industrial, and a bit cryptic.
But as the Reddit thread later suggests (if you click on it), it's a song about a guy having a "revelation" when watching strippers in a jukebox joint.
I think it has everything to please a certain crew of guys mongering in various states of chemical-induced minds around smokey bars with loud music and strippers, which is a local specialty after all. That's why i think this is the right place (expats forum) in the place (Cambodia) to post it.
The sound is industrial, noisy, filthy, damp and sexual, which suits well with it's topic, and the few seedy bars i've been in. Hey it's even a classier sound than most of these places.
Allright, it matches also Thailand and others brothel-friendly places, sure.
It's a delicacy if you're playing it loud, and you're ok to embrace something out of your music-zone, because it's well-made, although not to please everyone for sure.
I don't folk music much these days.

One for Zero 7 fans. The gig Glastonbury 2004.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

I do.
Try getting your head around DustyEsky (Esky - Oz beer cooler)
On the breakwater at the surf beach in Brunswick Heads a group of men are reverently singing a rousing Russian revolutionary song. They are dressed as Russian workers, in cloth caps.
Then came the call from the Russian Ministry of Culture inviting them to sing in Red Square for the Immortal Regiment at the Grand Victory Day Parade on May 9. The full Russian display, "250,000 people and [President Vladimir] Putin and the tanks and all the stuff," Andrew says incredulously.

(I know half these blokes personally, they come from the little hobbit shire where i spent many years before my Cambodian days.
My kinda music. our kinda serious sense of humour)

Aaaah, when it comes to Australia & New Zealand bands that went on a unusual musical path, i can't help but think about Dead Can Dance...i wonder how popular they are in your area, but in europe they are very appreciated. They go medieval, celtic, ethnic, borrowing antique instruments, like the real thing, and beyond. Almost 30 years i'm into it, specially the 5 or 6 earliest albums.
Not sure that would be folk music though, but i like how far they went.
