Re: New Section Suggestions?
Ok, but in the real world, many people (myself included) hover over a link and then decide to follow it. You may well be right, and probably are. But at the end of the day, Search Friendly Url's are User Friendly Url's.OrangeDragon wrote:Two reasons, one the mod is made for linux servers and mine is a windows server (linux fanboys: it's what i had, because most of my work is in .net. i prefer php to run on linux as well... but i work with what i have). Doing it in windows is still possible but a much larger pain in the ass. Two, it actually conflicts with some other mods we have in place.
It's not exceptionally critical for seo, as google now has a setup in the webmaster tools where i can (and have) define the url parameters for things like f= and t=, which means the main problem friendly urls fixed vanishes without it.
so it becomes a lot of work for little reward and undoing another feature (i can't actually remember which one now though, so it would also mean finding that out).

It does, and WAY faster than their site by nearly all measures... it's a nice server.

It's very fast, was quite impressed by that.
I use a CDN for one of my sites, and it's amazingly fast.

We may be pushing the limit of forum sections already, but if I were involved, I would have a section for hotels and guesthouses to put up adds with links to their websites and let them compete for guests here. If they get some traffic they might start to advertise on the banners too.

That could probably go in the proposed wiki section.Soi Dog wrote:We may be pushing the limit of forum sections already, but if I were involved, I would have a section for hotels and guesthouses to put up adds with links to their websites and let them compete for guests here. I was thinking about that... as well as perhaps a thread for posting known wifi passwords and speed/quality reviews at guesthouses/etc.
As I understand it the main reason they have them is to keep tuktuk drivers off... so posting here to make it easier for people staying at them to get them without damaging them. who's gonna use it unless they're already there, meaning they'd have been given it anyway.
i always get to my room, have a shower and relax before i remember i need it, then have to get dressed and go hunt it down... real pain in the ass.

I agree with Soi Dog, there is too many sections and we should have one so competing businesses can spam. Let the sections fill out, and if one of them doesn't... I say delete it.Soi Dog wrote:We may be pushing the limit of forum sections already, but if I were involved, I would have a section for hotels and guesthouses to put up adds with links to their websites and let them compete for guests here. Re: New Section Suggestions?
How about a 'Night Shift' section/thread ? It is 22:30, local time, here at the CEO Consulate in Wigan, we are in the mood for chat and banter but, alas it is 04:30 there, so we have no one to chat with, . If we had such a section, it would bring those of us who are currently stuck on the 'Wheel' and only dreaming of escaping to Cambodia, for now.
Obviously, a completely stupid and crazy idea but with the rapid growth in membership of this forum, maybe something we might revisit tomorrow
