US court weighs ‘functional life sentence’ for pedophile
Wed, 27 July 2016
Andrew Nachemson

A California sex offender convicted in the US earlier this year of assaulting underage girls in Cambodia could face 70 years in prison, according to a US news report.

Prosecutor David Herzog told ABC News in Los Angeles that he had requested the maximum sentence be increased from 30 years to 70 years after defendant Ronald Boyajian was convicted of three separate crimes in a Los Angeles court.

Four of his victims produced additional testimony during a sentencing hearing on Monday, the report said, with one of them begging the court “do not allow this man to leave prison”.

In addition to sexual assault of a child, Boyajian was convicted of travelling with the purpose of engaging in illegal sexual acts and committing a felony involving a minor while being required to register as a sex offender. Boyajian was only facing charges for the first crime in Cambodia.

Boyajian committed the crimes between 2002 and 2009 in the “Kilo 11” suburb of Phnom Penh...

Oh, and he had a Khmer "friend" who was working undercover and wearing a wire, camera, etc. Never befriend Khmer dudes.

Was this faux-ami on the APLE payroll? Or whose?

As for the "victims", are we to assume that they got lost on their way to school and, by unfortunate chance, ended up in Kilo 11?

An appalling piece of sarcasm that reveals real ignorance about the fate of these children forced into prostitution. Just another post not to be proud of.

Over the years, Svay Pak has provided a full rice bowl to many a journalist as well as the platoons of full-time do-goodies - Dateline NBC has visited so often it's surprising they haven't opened a bureau there

Well, in so far as it was ever really "open." It was a brothel village, ie a village with a lot of brothels. The open brothels closed, or at least stopped offering those services, or at least openly, but the village didn't close. The people are still there, many of the same that were there before.

The Cambodia Daily
US Man Gets 70 Years for Sex Crimes in Cambodia

by Hannah Hawkins | August 3, 2016

Ronald Boyajian, a 55-year-old American man convicted in March of repeatedly visiting Cambodia to sexually abuse young girls, was on Monday sentenced to 70 years in a U.S. federal prison in a case hailed as a success of Washington’s “Operation Twisted Traveler” initiative.

Mr. Boyajian’s mother, however, said her son was innocent and that the sentence was the result of an intergovernmental conspiracy.

The sentence, handed down by Judge Christina Snyder at court in Los Angeles, comes more than seven years after Mr. Boyajian was arrested in Phnom Penh and nearly five months after he was found guilty of abusing a 9-year-old girl in Cambodia, traveling to Cambodia with the intent of committing sex crimes and doing so while registered as a sex offender in California.

Mr. Boyajian “was sentenced today to 70 years in federal prison and $40,000 restitution to a victim,” the U.S. Justice Department announced in a statement on Monday...
