Kampot
Was there over the weekend, great food and pretty cheap- really built out since my last visit a few years ago.
Full of raving crazies, moto accidents and stinking backpackers. literally stinking.
seems a bit frayed and desperate = seedier than sihanoukville/

Here now. I wouldn't say "seedier than Sihanoukville," but I can see the rest. A lot of new businesses. A lot of potless young tourists. Blatant drugs. Disinterested locals. The tone has changed. The pace is picking up, and getting less quiant by the month. And I think that's part of it, knowing what it was. If I was a tourist who arrived today for the first time I'd think it was something special, that I'd got there just in time, right at the beginning of tourist development. But knowing, looking back only a couple few years it does now look like paradise almost lost. God knows what it's going to look like in 5 years.frank lee bent wrote:Was there over the weekend, great food and pretty cheap- really built out since my last visit a few years ago.

I see that the old prison is gone. A flat open mudscape now. Only the two colonial office buildings at the front remain. And if the concept drawing of the future development on the sign is correct, only one will be preserved in the end.
It's 9:20PM in Kampot and there are a dozen+ places open and within walking distance where I can sit a a bar and get a drink. Ugh.
So I think I'll go have a drink.

Nope, and the general consensus among expats seems to be that is that they don't want any. There are some beergardens and ktv's with hostesses though.Jamie_Lambo wrote:have any girly bars opened up yet? if not, im not interested...
Re: Kampot
Kampot has appeared on some backpacker blogs over the last 2-3 years as the new "in" place to party. Then it's clear the plague has landed.
