Please drop the price

Post by Duncan »

HE's a kind sympathetic sort of guy, so would someone with a Facebook account ask him to drop the price of a 1 year visa .

Sen David, The Phnom Penh Post
Mon, 25 January 2016

Prime Minister HE announced via Facebook on Friday that the cost of the final exam sat by university students seeking government accreditation to practice medicine will be reduced from $125 to just $25.

The price slash was in response to a Facebook post by medical student Darapiseth Sokha, who called on the PM to intervene after students had failed to convince the exam board after multiple protests at the University of Health Sciences.

“I hope that the 1433 students will feel better with this help with their spending, so that they have some money left over to support their livelihood,” HE’s post reads.

The prime minister said he had already cleared the price reduction with the health minister and an official request from the Council of Ministers would be issued in the coming days.

To the extent that they pretty much ONLY ask you for the price of a 1-year visa, I wonder what they else could negotiate in exchange for such price reduction? I would not open that particular can of worms ...

How much does a 1-year visa for Cambodia cost these days? It's not that expensive, it it?

At least, it's easy to get. Or, has that changed?

If He can drop the price of yearly registration on moto bike from 5000r to zero,
and drop the price of moto licences for those under 125 cc to zero,
and drop the price of tolls on the roads to zero ,
and reduce the fee for medical students from $125 to $25
then on a comparative basis He could drop the visa fees from $285 to $60. This would allow foreigners like myself to support another kid to go to school, or in your case, buy more beer to support a brewery industry to employ more workers who would be able to send a kid to school.

Perhaps I should repost this at a more suitable time, like at 3 am in the morning.

Indeed. Money will need to come in from other sources then: Annual visa, work permit, expat health check, airport charges, foreigner fees for visiting public sites such as Wat Phnom and Takhmao Zoo, increased foreigner surcharge for bus travel, tourist taxes, charges for expats using up the sidewalk and breathing in the good and fresh air of Phnom Penh etc.
I'd not be surprised if something comes up soon.....

Do you really think they would charge expats [ and tourists ] to breath the air on riverside ? It's bad enough that they destroy the cheap accommodation on the riverfront.

I was merely extrapolating the ridiculous.
Just imagine the outcry if in any European country foreigners would have to pay higher prices for public transport, or visiting public sites...

Just imagine the outcry in Europe if the average national monthly wage was about $80... apples are best compared with apples rather than oranges.
