Moving to Cambodia
Moving to Cambodia
So I currently live in the USA, and I am planning on moving to Cambodia soon. I will quit my job here in the states. I am a certified chef, and am looking for a job either in cooking, or teaching. Has anyone had any luck finding a job in Cambodia while in your home country?

Re: Moving to Cambodia
I think you will have no problem finding work once you are here. I know plenty of English teachers that arrived and were employed within 2 weeks. But my advice would be to pursue your own business in the culinary field. Anyone can (and does) teach but if you can cook to a professional/western standard you should find greater demand for your services: hotels, top restaurants, or start your own business. Good luck.

Much easier to find work on the ground, I'm afraid.

I'd come and do a cheffing gig in PP or SR before investing in any businesses of your own, you'd want to suss out your markets and prices first.

Re: Moving to Cambodia
if you want "real money " (ie over 1,200/month) your going to have to visit each 3-4 star hotel and ask if there is an opening, have lots of patience and 6 months living expenses in your pocket. I am not talking about a teaching English to kids gig
I doubt there are any independent restaurants that would hire a western chef ( i could be wrong)
most places in SE Asia do not hire outside, except international schools
I was able to get 2 real jobs when i was there on the ground in 2008
PS; same goes for Thailand.
Personally if i was young, i would head to Myanmar

Re: Moving to Cambodia
;
last month i was in Yangon,
i was approached on the street if i wanted a girl
I asked where, an he pointed across the street to a huge ktv club
its just not in your face like Thailand and Cambodia, which for me is a BIG ++++
If you need bar girls to make your life more enjoyable, perhaps u need to rethink your priorities.
