is simple cannabis consumption legal or illegal in Cambodia?
Re: is simple cannabis consumption legal or illegal in Cambodia?
This insidious drug is quite legal for those who are not too simple to avoid being caught.
Farmers and pizza vendors rely on this material, which gives an indication of the seriousness of the threat.
It is a staple of native pig food and an important alimentary article for unwell elders, and those tourists with the tribal hair styles formerly only seen in Nagaland.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Too true. Contrary to common perception, Nagaland is not where all those nude Nagasadhus come from.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

No, its not legal anywhere in Cambodia. Yes, in Shitsville and many places like PP you can smoke in a bar or guesthouse no problem. But Siem Reap and (recently) Kampot are different. Its more a local enforcement decision on what type of community they want to promote. Think or ask before you light up and don't assume it is OK. Better yet, smoke at home not in public places.

Have cops been known to do drug searches in the streets of PP or SHV? (People traveling by foot, motorbike, car, etc.)
Are cops known for raiding people's rooms/houses for minor possession? (I don't care to smoke it but I like to cook with it.)

Since my first long stay in Cambodia, like 8 years ago, things have changed considerably. According to what i have read, Cambodia is no longer the same carefree place it once was regarding such activities. There have been big changes in Cambodian Politics which have changed all of that. Be as careful as you would be in Thailand.

It's all in the News, and probably best for newbie travellers to be wary. Since i left Cambodia the Gov have clamped down a lot on some stuff..nemo wrote:Incorrect nonsense.
