Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I wonder if the CNRP will mobilise supporters to rally outside parliament.
Scarier than malaria.

The army is present. Everything is under control.

And must say that that crowd does not at all resemble a bunch of underemployed motordops with nothing better to do.

Cowards don't want their faces seen.

I'm no fan of Sokha, but this stinks.

Is Kong Saphea slightly retarded or something? This video shows him getting dragged out of his car by an angry man from the crowd, then kicked around on the ground pretty badly.

His driver jumps out and helps him get back into the car.

{ISN'T THIS THE STAGE WHEN YOU START TO THINK THAT MAYBE IT'S A GOOD FUCKING IDEA TO LOCK YOUR DOOR? BUT NO...}

Driver jumps in too, and you assume they're going to drive away...

Then, more angry people from the mob open his same fucking door, drag him out and beat his ass again.

Driver jumps out and repeats protocol.

Then, for some unknown reason, instead of just driving off, the driver jumps out AGAIN and runs around the car, as if someone in the car, maybe Kong Saphea, had called out, "CHINESE FIRE DRILL!!"

Why didn't he lock the door after the first attack, and why the hell is his driver doing a Chinese Fire Drill at such a time?

It's like common sense was nowhere to be found in that car.

From the Cambodia Daily:

CNRP Lawmakers Beaten Outside National Assembly

Opposition lawmakers Nhay Chamroeun and Kong Saphea were beaten and severely injured by protesters outside the National Assembly on Monday morning during a demonstration demanding that CNRP Vice President Kem Sokha step down as the parliament’s vice president.

Videos of the incident show Mr. Chamroeun, bloody and badly beaten, being led away from the protesters by his assistants, and Mr. Saphea being dragged from his SUV by protesters who repeatedly punch and kick him in the face.....

I found the video quite unsettling.

Not 1 Police / security anywhere to be seen.

Times are changing and not in a good way.

He suffered a bloody nose. its hardly a severe beating.

Still unacceptable, mind you.

As for times changing; seems the more they change the more they stay the same. None of this is without precedent.

Hasn't he been beaten up before? Why, if no-one likes you, would you not hire a semi-competent minder or someone with the nous to get you the fuck out of dodge in times of trouble? I wish it could be the cunning double bluff, play the martyr card but it's clearly just ineptitude. Or the door lock button is broken

After his brainless handling of the situation today, I wouldn't be surprised to find out this is an everyday occurrence.

You might be on to something there.

Ok I have a theory. Mislaid car keys.
What if the driver had left the key in the boot/trunk lock, which would explain why he couldn't drive off, the central locking system couldn't work, and why he got back out and ran around the back of the car ? Perfect incompetence.

But, whatever the reason, not a good situation at all.
