Man Hung Himself As Girlfriend Asked for Breaking Up

Breaking news from Cambodia can be found here. CEO often finds Khmer news and translates it into English for our readers if it is interesting to expats, locals, Cambodians living abroad and anyone who wants to stay informed of the latest local and international news stories about Cambodia and our neighbors in South East Asia. There are many sources for Khmer news articles and they can all be found here in one place. Most of the media comes out of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville, but we cover national Cambodian news from all provinces.

Or conflict resolution skills. Perhaps a distinction without a difference.
IMHO
And many have mental health problems, a low frustration threshold, chronic malnutrition/low IQ, no education, drug/alcohol problems, poverty and difficult living conditions - none of this helps with critical thinking, objective perspective or conflict resolution. Add to this an extremely small world view, adolescent angst and the importance of the loss of face.
And somewhere in all that, these suicides represent a lack of hope in the future and a belief that things can get better in this life.

Depressing indeed.
Agree. All these tragic suicides mostly happened in the provinces of Cambodia, even in Phnom Penh, those who committed suicide were originally from provinces.

Thoughts on Buddhism and suicide - it's not ok.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious ... e#Buddhism" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In Theravada Buddhism, for a monk to so much as praise death, including dwelling upon life's miseries or extolling stories of possibly blissful rebirth in a higher realm in a way that might condition the hearer to commit suicide or to pine away to death, is explicitly stated as a breach in one of highest vinaya codes, the prohibition against harming life, one that will result in automatic expulsion from Sangha.

For Buddhists, since the first precept is to refrain from the destruction of life, including one's self, suicide is seen as a negative act. If someone commits suicide in anger, he may be reborn in a sorrowful realm due to negative final thoughts. However, unlike Christianity and other religions, Buddhism does not condemn suicide without exception, but rather observes that the reasons for suicide are often negative and thus counteract the path to enlightenment...

It might shock y'all to learn that you are more likely to off yourself if you're an American (30th most likely place to die by suicide) than if you're a Cambodian (75th).

The real difference is, as alluded to in previous discussions, suicides are not generall publicized or discussed in Western media (unless they're amusing accidental deaths of politicians featuring oranges and pairs of tights) whereas no such compuction is held here.

People who commit suicide are to be pitied and their religion matters not a jot. The country in 10th place is Poland (somewhere I am incredibly familiar with) and nearly everyone is Catholic. Yet, Filipinos (same religion) are right down the bottom of the rankings in 91st place. There are no simple generalizations to be had on suicide; it's an individual decision taken in moments of great mental pain (possibly mental illness) and that's all there is to it.

Cambodian statistics on this are reliable of course ?
Heart attack anyone ?

Interesting link anyway. According to wiki, the high suicide rate in Bhutan comes from the Nepalese refugees.
This leads me to wonder about the global rate of suicide among refugees and immigrants. For example, does the immigrant factor (including Cambodian refugees) have an influence on US figures, what about the housing crisis, the mobility of US society in general ?

Also, how much depression in Cambodia has its sources in the upheaval of Cambodian society and the consequent rootlessness (landlessness) that still prevails ?

also in buddhism human life is in the human realm is seen to be one of the greatest, because in the forever ending cycle of Samsara the human realm still has the best chance of reaching Nirvana/Enlightenment, where as if in the next life you go to one of the lower realms of animals or lost spirits then you cant reach nirvana, and in the highier heavens your life span is 1000's of years or something, cant remember all the ins and outs
