Old Cambodia road accident stats; 2004 report

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

Old Cambodia road accident stats; 2004 report

Post by Anchor Moy »

2004 Annual report on traffic accidents - a bit out-of-date but some interesting statistics even so:
Cambodia Road Traffic Accident
and Victim Information System
Annual Report 2004 – Executive Summary
ƒ
Occupation of casualties
-
Students represent the largest group of casualties
(22.5% of casualties), followed by workers
(22%) and vendors/small businesses (18%).
-
Motorbike taxi drivers constitute only 3%
of the total number of casualties.
...
... Road characteristics
- More than 80% of casualties are injured in accidents occurring on straight roads
...
IMO this report compiled in 2004 looks like a typical optimistic result of NGO & govt collaboration.Just have to point out the problems and they will be fixed. Naïve NGOs...
(From Handicap International Belgium) :This report includes a collection of data as well as relevant recommendations. We hope they will be of use to
the road safety and public health stakeholders in Cambodia, helping them to develop measures, plans and programmes aiming at preventing accidents, disabilities and deaths.
Very interesting reading nontheless. http://www.who.int/violence_injury_prev ... xecsum.pdf
