Vietnam visa run...

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

What's wrong with the Koh Kong crossing? I ask because only recently I saw a new video of people doing it in a very peaceful environment no hassles at all. It's where I was planning on doing my visa run but if you have information to share to the contrary please share.

Going out to Thai ok, but walking back in that's when the fun starts... Might be better this time of year, quieter.
First is the man with the temperature gun, 20 baht please , then which window. Oh the man is having lunch closed. What currency, usually baht, you have to go to money changer. Then back to the window big queues by now, you could be there hours.. Then the touts come at you, more money..
On and on it goes.. Keep your wits about you at all times, some people manage it ok. But never for me, maybe I'm just unlucky ?
Then how you getting back, if your quick back into Koh kohng may get a bus bus, otherwise stay night, or taxi or minibus. Check the mini bus out ,will it get back to snooky without breaking down, mine didn't...
Good luck and make sure you know what visa you want, otherwise means another trip in a month..

The immigration assholes at KK extorted everybody. When the Visa was $20, they only would accept 1000 baht. I'd have to haggle with them screaming at me for 15 mins to get them down to $25. The Germans I shared a cab with once into town all paid $40.

A good border crossing?

I crossed Laos - Vietnam at Lao Bao last week in to vietnam, on a bus from savanakhet to Hue

There is only one building, that is shared by both the Laos and Viet customs staff. no walking across 'no mans land'. In fact i was amazed to see that they share an office - the viet imigration officer sits on a chair right next to the Laos guy, behind the same desk. you que up once and just hand passport from one to the other. then walk through and x ray your bag and get back on the bus

you cant get vietnam visas there though, i had one already from the consulate in pakse

Temp gun man, laugh at him. Tell him where to go.

Touts, shake head, keep walking.

Pay your $20 or $25. Speak Khmer, smile and exchange pleasantries.

Visit casino, play a little blackjack, have a meal.

Taxi to PP four hours and $35.

Only as much trouble as you make it. . .

:thumb: Exactly that except I don't need visa and usually try to do from the koh kong bridge to driving on the left side of the road in under an hour. Even if it can take less than that, no casino for me ;)

Same method also works to have the custom's gate opened for a car full of stuff, without any greasing being necessary.

While speeding my way at the border window, I might pity and even help the odd pleasant tourists that I see struggling. However many times they just seem to deserve what they get and much more so when it comes to expats. For the latter it is sometimes difficult to contain laughter
