This whole thing is the most ridiculous, stupid, biggest waste of money ever. Honestly, what good came out of this? After how many million dollars later, a couple of refugees get sent to cambodia, all that money being pocketed by this ridiculous HE dude who is so precious he can't be named. Hump sen or some shit, I forget.

Just bury the money in the middle of a random desert and launch a big international treasure hunt for it, that would have been better use of the money and much more entertaining.

Fuck abbot.

Refugee reportedly seeking repatriation
Mon, 7 September 2015
Charles Rollet
One of the four refugees resettled in Cambodia as part of a multimillion-dollar deal signed with Australia wants to return to the country he escaped from, according to a report.

Ministry of Interior spokesman Khieu Sopheak told radio service RFA Khmer on Saturday that the refugee – a Rohingya man from Myanmar – wanted to give up his refugee status and return to Myanmar because he was homesick.

Sopheak could not be reached for comment yesterday.

In exchange for almost $40 million in aid, Cambodia agreed in September of 2014 to accept an unspecified number of refugees from an Australian-run detention camp on the tiny Pacific island of Nauru.

The Rohingya man was one of only four out of 677 refugees who accepted to go to Cambodia, arriving in Phnom Penh along with two Iranian men and one Iranian woman this June. Discrimination against the Muslim Rohingyas in Buddhist-majority Myanmar has caused many to flee the country.

Joe Lowry, spokesperson for the International Organization for Migration, which is overseeing the refugees’ resettlement, declined to comment.'

cue: Hey Joe, where you going with 40m in your hand?

I'm goin down, going down to settle others in another scam
Jesus loves you...Mexico is great, right? ;)

Rohingya Refugee Picks Burma Over Cambodia

A Rohingya refugee wants to go back to Burma—where his people are denied citizenship and subject to deadly pogroms by the Buddhist majority—rather than stay in Cambodia any longer, according to the Ministry of Interior.

The man, whose identity has been kept secret, landed in Phnom Penh on June 4 along with three Iranians—the first group to move here from Australia’s refugee camps on the South Pacific island of Nauru under a controversial resettlement deal that Canberra convinced Cambodia to sign with the nudge of a generous aid package. The four have since been kept away from the media behind the gates of their paid-for villa outside the city center and accompanied by chaperones during excursions outside.

On Sunday, Interior Ministry spokesman General Khieu Sopheak said the Rohingya man had grown overcome with “homesickness.”

Maybe they had set him up living in Poipet? Then I could see the reason for wanting back to the dangerous homeland!

"The government has dribbled the money to them. They've been kept in a very isolated arrangement and there's been no prospect for them," he said.
Mr Rintoul said the Iranian couple never received enough money to "even subsist, let alone do anything with it."
"They complained bitterly that they were struggling to survive in Cambodia…the whole resettlement arrangement is going belly-up," he said.

Refugee agency sources in Phnom Penh confirmed to Fairfax Media that the four refugees have been unhappy despite living in an Australian-paid luxury villa and being promised training, help finding work, language tuition, health insurance and other benefits.
"Their movements are restricted…they want to live the way they were promised they would be allowed to," said one source who asked for anonymity.

Sounds like the whole thing is being poorly administered and promises have not been delivered. It matters little if your prison is a luxury villa paid for by the Australian government, it's still a prison. http://www.smh.com.au/world/refugee-wan ... jgg25.html
