Would the poor support a revolution?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Would the poor support a revolution?

Post by vladimir »

The world is ready...

We have been through many revolutions, mostly with negative long-term results.

But it is an undeniable fact that most of humanity is WAY fed up with the way things are going, less than 1% controlling what happens, and motivated by greed and the pornographic love of money, at the expense of innocent people.

So, are we headed for yet another revolution?

Personally, I think it's inevitable.

And soon.

I doubt it very much. WW3 will happen before any worldwide poor people revolution.

What would people take part in a revolution for? Swap capitalism for communism? It's been tried and didn't work very well... a revolution requires something to believe in. I'd bet on WW3 and soon rather than global revolution too...

yes, killing is on a post industrial scale now.

It is generally deemed preferable to get the poor to kill each other than kill the rulers.

The poor do not read history, and do not care about long-term results. The rich and powerful have taught them that, at least.

Sadly, Vlad throughout history the poor have only ever become involved in a revolution because some middle-class (or higher) toss pot encouraged them to. The middle-classes are the ones you need to convince to get your revolution going and they aren't convinced at the moment.

I don't think this is true at all. Most human beings are reasonably content and don't angrily obsess about everyone who has more money than they do.

This is easy to lose sight of though when the angry 1% are making 99% of the posts on a given internet forum.

If everybody is so angry why did they pack up and go home from their Occupy demonstrations?
