Cambodian Belief About Suicide by Hanging
Re: Cambodian Belief About Suicide by Hanging
TBH, i myself have never seen this practice before, it is a very old practice that you might only could see in the past. I guess my mom had never practiced it too and it might had to do with the fact that my mom is Chinese-Cambodian.Jamie_Lambo wrote:you should still do it, it will be interesting to hear your perspective on the subject coming from an actual cambodian also, i learnt about it not long after i was learning about the Chbab SreySamouth wrote:You are right Jamie. It seems like there are a lot of articles in English about this subject already. I think i will write about something else. Recently you don't see many people do it (Chol M'lop).Jamie_Lambo wrote:Chol M'lop, is that the "into the darkness" thing where upon a girls first period she has to stay in the house for like 6-12months and learn how to become a good housewife being taught by the mother/aunts, and is only allowed to leave the home during the night time and has to do discreetly or something, cant remember everything but i did research it a little a couple of months ago, is it so she becomes more appealing as a wife to a future husband or something? its a bit of a crazy traditionSamouth wrote:Thanks everyone for reading it and all the given compliment. @little salary, I always hesitated to tell people when they asked me where i am originally from, because everyone always expected that i am from the city of Sihanoukville. I originally from Sihanoukville province, but i grew up in a small village calls Smach Deng, Barang Doa Slae probably know it clearly since he used to live in Ream Beach, the Beach where i went to swim since i was young until now, i popped in sometime. Growing in the small village, i pretty much have seen and done a lot of things that children in the city probably don't know or have a clue about.
Here is the actual translation of that term http://dict.antkh.com/dictionaries/%E1% ... 9F%8B.aspx
What i will write will be solely based on what i have learned and read.

Got me wondering. Any stats on recovery rate I wonder? Certainly a short, sharp, shock. A near death experience. A replay of the DK days? Any other cultures use this approach?I wouldn't imagine being kidnapped and dragged to a shallow grave is a great cure for depression though.

Sounds idyllic. Ream has the best beaches now. Is that the village one passes through before the toll booth?Samouth wrote:Thanks everyone for reading it and all the given compliment. Smach Deng is a small village near Sihanoukville Airport, in the direction from Sihanoukivlle city, you will pass Airport first then the village. It will take me only 1 or 2 minute to drive (motorbike) from my house to the airport.juansweetpotato wrote:Sounds idyllic. Ream has the best beaches now. There are a lot of beaches in Ream that are really clean and unspoiled such as Channe Sen Sok, Virak Brambei and Preak Chak.

Sihanuk ville was a city in the previous time. But now your hometown became a province. I grew up in the city and poor family. I've never Chol M'lop.Samouth wrote:Thanks everyone for reading it and all the given compliment. I now feel like it is a good idea to share more about Cambodia, not just people and places. I ever read it and once I watched it on KTV. It's good if you can share everyone about it.

Sihanoukville is the city, "ville"means city or town. The province is Preah Sihanouk. Kampong Som is the old name that many still use, I usually do.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
