Fireworks in Phnom Penh at New years Eve

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Fireworks in Phnom Penh at New years Eve

Post by Joakim »

I know that its not a very lot of fireworks at midnight but where to be to see the ones that there is.
We've been up at 37ich floor at Rosewood last years wich is fine but U hear nothing so no really feeling.
This year I want to be on the ground and because 2 85+ grandmas and a child, rooftop bars is not really a thing.
Just random Riverside?
Any recommendations?

Yes, at riverside close to the Royal Palace will be the best. But I'm not sure how big the crowds will be.

Be careful. Fireworks have killed people watching it in the past. Some parts collapsed and fired in the audience, five or six years ago, killing several and hurting more

I always watch them from Sihanouk Blvd in order to minimise how much traffic and crowds I have to fight through. The view is great for Nagaworld's fireworks. It doesn't work for water festival though because those fireworks are launched from Choy Changwa, which is further north than Naga's boat.

We ended up at Independence Monument. I think it was as far we could get without totally get stuck in the crazy traffic.
We didn't even try with Riverside after seeing all the traffic and read some reports.
It was an ok place to be, little to far away but ok.
BTW. Tried to get a Grab or PassApp but totally impossible.

I can't understand why Grab don't do like Uber/Bolt do (at least as I know in Europe) 2X 3X 4X or even more when HIGH demand, so the driver stays with the app.
Now Grab was about 25% up. Peanuts. I understand why drivers don't use App when they can get high Cash on the street.

Out here in vast anonamous rice field land nearly every family conducts its own pyrotecnic celebrations.

'Amazing how much riotous fun everybody can have with cheap chinese peashooter fireworks when they are fuelled by vast volumes of beer (all day) and spirits (solidly) into the night.
Pretty sure the kids are extra hyped up on alcohol fumes too.

As the two teetottler exceptions, my wife and i had great fun expelling the ghosts of the hated Nuon from the land with our puny but furious artillary fire.
( they murdered her father in a rice field within spitting distance down the road. -1979)

An exposively great day and a fabulously riotous night - Countryside style.
