Thanks to @Jkcliche to put this on my radar; I had never even heard of the restaurant. It is very much downtown but easy to miss when driving or walking by. Anyway, we decided to have an impromptu Christmas Day lunch here.

Image

As mentioned, the place was easy to miss and our Tuk-tuk driver blew right past it. I love PassApp, Grab, and all the other ride-sharing apps, but some training on following a GPS map should be compulsory. Anyway, a short hobble on crutches for me, and we did get there.

Image

I almost walked into the kitchen first as the two doors are right next to each other, but the Missus grabbed me just in time. There were two guests when we arrived, and the waitress showed us into the backroom instead. We thus found ourselves at a table that could easily seat 10, but better than no space, I guess.

Image

Menus arrived promptly. Both drink and food menu are on the small side, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I did see the kitchen, and it is miniscule; they couldn’t have more items on the menu if they wanted to. Prices seemed reasonable, apart from the Kefir, which was a whopping US$5.00. I cannot say much about the wines as I do not drink it, plus I was actually working.

Image

We ordered the Signature Board ($12.00) as a starter, followed by smoked duck breast ($10.00), garlic chili shrimp ($8.00), smoked pork belly sandwich ($7.00) and crab cheese croquettes ($4.50). All prices are without 10% VAT.

The waitress was very friendly and attentive but did not really speak English. I know, I know: we are in Cambodia, but I confess to not speaking much Khmer. And the restaurant does seem to cater mostly to foreigners, judging by the all-English menu. We got it sorted out eventually, or so we hoped.

Signature Board. Quite a feast.

We started with the Signature Board, and it was absolutely massive. It basically had most starters on it, and most of the items were spot-on. My favourite was the smoked mackerel mousse, with a very intense flavour. The seafood-cheese spring rolls were also excellent, as was the truffle-cheese foam. The hand-cut potato fries could have been crisper, and the spicy avocado dip was anything but spicy. I find avocado boring at the best of times and only really like it when it is very well seasoned.

Image
The crab-cheese croquettes were to heavy on the Wasabi.

We were still working our way through the board when the first main course arrived (we had asked for the platter first, but either that got lost in translation, or the Chef cum owner sent the dishes out as they were prepared). The daughter had ordered the croquettes, and we all agreed that they were probably not our most favourite dish. The croquettes were quite tasty, but there was way too much Wasabi powder on them, killing all flavour.

Image
Smoked pork belly sandwich. Very nice.

Next came the smoked pork belly sandwich, and that was a hit with everyone. Super tender pork belly packing a whole bunch of smoky flavours. Probably something I will order in the future.

Image
Braised garlic-chili shrimp. Very good!

The Missus went for the braised garlic chili shrimp with toasted bread. She had actually wanted the baby octopus, but they were out. The shrimp, more like prawns, where cooked to perfection and packed quite a punch. There were four large peppers in the dish and whilst normally the larger the pepper, the milder, these were fairly spicy, as I found out when demonstrating this fact to the Missus. Perfect for me, but my better half could have done with less burn. She still liked the dish very much though.

Image
My favourite: smoked duck breast.

Last but not least, my smoked duck breast arrived, and it was a thing of beauty. A very large breast smoked to pretty much perfection. Really tender and arguably one of the best duck breasts I have had in this city. I am not sure what the Chef uses to smoke his meats, but he is doing a darn fine job. All four of us agreed that the duck breast alone is worth going to Fat Passion.

No desserts on the menu, and the waitress did not mention any, but we were all well and truly stuffed. The total bill came to USD 50.00, which I think is pretty good value for money considering the quality and quantity offered.

I could have done without the Christmas music, one of the reasons I moved to South East Asia after all, but when they caught on that the family is Vietnamese and put on V-pop, I was wishing for Mariah Carey…..

Merry Christmas to all, especially @Yobbo

I originally saw Fat Passion at the St 19 site when returning from eating elsewhere and then cv19 hit and it wasn't there after so I was pleased to see it was still going.
Last night I decided to try it, ordered the Signature platter as a starter with the intention of having the smoked duck breast as a main, big mistake, I hadn't realised how much was on the platter and only just managed to finish it. Thankfully I didn't order the main at the start.
Other than that I endorse Hanno's comments regarding the platter, I found the staff very good always looking to see if everything was OK.
So I will go back but won't be ordering the platter again will pick a starter or 2 plus the smoked duck breast

Insane beer prices, especially when you see their well-priced food. The thought that someone might take them up on their offer to get a Singha for $3.50 almost makes me vomit!

That platter is massive. We were four people and it was still a struggle.

There are nearby establishments that sell Singha for $3. So just try not to drink too much during your meal. ☠️

Yea It has. It's opposite Fat Passion, towards the St 19, corner of 184.
