68 year-old Croatian seeks advice when asked to pay $25,000+ to the mother of his 19 year-old Cambodian fiancee

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

"My ransom will be higher"

I know it's probably mostly due to English not being his first language, but still...'ransom' ... he seems to understand how transactional the marriage is.

I'm not judging either side, but when you're a 68-year-old essentially buying a 19-year-old girl who needs to care for her family, haggling over the price seems tacky and low-class to me.

Wondering what sage advice the resident Finnish punk rocker could sprinkle on Goran’s upcoming marital bliss…

I think that's a little unfair. He has established what she is, and now he's just doing due diligence.

Agreed, the family should take whatever they can get, he'll probably be dead in a few years anyway.

Conversely, he could push for a reduced rate taking his age in to account.
Wasn't there a law forbidding old western crusties from marrying younger women?
