Just like with the tycoons that have been in the news lately for killing rivalries, running over people, assaulting sexy tv hosts, etc. That shit happened all the time, but don't get much attention if there's not media to go along with it. You couldn't possibly think that these tycoons are usually well-behaved, and the few times they acted up they were unfortunate enough to be caught on video. People want to see shit and verify it with their own eyes. If it's graphic we'll put it in a spoiler so you can decide if you want to look or just take the writer's word for it and hear only about that details they want to include, and know nothing else about anything they couldn't fit in a tiny 200 word article.
Kind of randomly reminds me of a funny story...
One of my family members was in a minor traffic accident. They were stopped at a stop sign and a knuckle head turned right into them. Knuckle had was very apologetic and said of course it was there fault. My family took pics before they moved the cars out of the way.
When the police came knuckle head told police, "well, we were both in the intersection" and got out of a ticket on the spot (this was before digital cameras, so nobody knew how the pics came out and if they showed anything or not).
Because knuckle head got out of a ticket, their insurance didn't want to pay for my family's damage.
Submitted the pictures and they promptly paid up.
You will ALWAYS have a better idea of what happened if there's media to go along with it. Period.
Same with people getting shot by police. No videos or pics? The officer and reporters can whatever they want happened. Video/pics? They have to be careful.
A lot of times it isn't reported on how long the person has been dead. See a pic and some people can make a pretty accurate guess.
When Peter Hogan died I instantly knew it was very serious when I saw the pic (which we never posted on here, as CEO members are much more protected than the general population, as this is there "home") his wife posted on Twitter with him looking deathly pale hooked up to every fucking thing they could fit on him, as opposed to just relying on his wife saying, "he in hospital."
In reality, a picture is worth a lot more than a measly thousand words.

Re: CEO and the Faces of Death
A very fair way to look at it, IMHO.Cowshed Cowboy wrote:Personally I've got no interest in looking at dead people, I don't want gory images in my head and I always avoid rubber necking accidents when the happen. However as long as they are in spoilers it doesn't bother me what others do, I just don't look. Having seen a few less the tasteless cases OTOF I'm more against the speculation on people's character, ( when they can't reply ), which now seems to involve scanning the people's facebook pages and the assumptions that come from that, it all seems a bit unnecessary to me. All very tabloid but I suppose death, drugs, sex etc always sells.
And we do delete outlandish speculation sometimes. Reasonable speculation we allow though, as almost everything in life requires a degree of speculation.
Like that guy who owns Language Corps here that hit a barrier at 3am with no other vehicles around. Many speculated that he had likely been drinking and driving. His buddy came on here, blasted us for our unfounded speculation, then turns around and said something like, "he had no more 3 drinks that night."
In my book, fair speculation is, well, fair.

Re: CEO and the Faces of Death
In the hopefully unlikely event that I pop this mortal coil in my hotel room on a visit to Phnom Penh, I'd just like to go on record now by saying to any of you bastards that click my spoiler, the blue pills on the bedside table are for my hay fever allergy and the handcuffs were genuine pre-owned Harry Houdini's that I bought on eBay to practice my lifelong passion for escapology. And there's nothing wrong with my Angry Birds underpants, the chicks love them. Well I think that's what they're laughing at.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

Although I'm sorry but I don't think they are laughing at the angry birds undies.
Sorry to be the one to break the news to you.

Ha! Maybe we should start charging for people to be placed in spoilers...Cowshed Cowboy wrote:In the hopefully unlikely event that I pop this mortal coil in my hotel room on a visit to Phnom Penh, I'd just like to go on record now by saying to any of you bastards that click my spoiler, the blue pills on the bedside table are for my hay fever allergy and the handcuffs were genuine pre-owned Harry Houdini's that I bought on eBay to practice my lifelong passion for escapology. I'm all for a bit of shrewd business thinking but can we cash in our karma points for a discount, the loyalty incentive program starts from the head and works downwards.General Mackevili wrote:Ha! Re: CEO and the Faces of Death
I dont really see what the problem is. CEOCambodianews always put inappropriate images in spoilers even with a sentence in brackets telling readers the nature of the image. I enjoy reading the newsworthy section just to keep up to how expats in PP and Snooky messed themselves up. For the record, I never clicked on the spoilers in the news section; seeing those shits on the Khmer newspapers tend to ruin my day already.

Re: CEO and the Faces of Death
I'm desensitized to gore and death, I've seen a lot of it. I think at first it's naturally uncomfortable to many people, but if you see it over and over again, you might not think anything of it.
It's actually a lot like pornography to me (excuse the inappropriateness of the analogy), but flat out nudity and sex doesn't really bother/interest/arouse me at all in the same way. I have no emotional attachment to the person, so as far as I am concerned, it's all just blood and flesh (re: death and porn).
Then again, I've also been told that I would be an excellent mortician by my teachers so I might the odd one out.
