Avoid getting Robbed
Avoid getting Robbed
I'm planning on moving to Cambodia and have heard a lot of stories about people getting robbed. This is what I've learned so from forums and talking to Cambodians.
1st rule: Avoid going out at night between 11 pm and 5 am.
2nd rule: Avoid walking on dark streets at night.
3rd rule: Don't walk around drunk or high.
Sometimes I get hungry in the middle of the night and like to go find something to eat. Are there some streets that are well lit up which have businesses open such as restaurants and mini marts and have people walking about during all hours?
For those who have been robbed can you share with us where and at what time?
Do people in Siam Reap and Shinoukville get robbed often like Phnom Penh?

I think this one is a good thread for you to read.

This has to be a troll post. It's not possible for anyone to be quite this... fill in your own blank as long as it's not using a word that means "intelligent" - you're still under admin protection.

Get your food delivered. PP, SR and SV all have places that you can phone up for 24h delivery service. Get a place with fridge so you don't have to go out after dark when you're hungry.soursop wrote:I'm planning on moving to Cambodia and have heard a lot of stories about people getting robbed. I haven't been robbed yet so I can't help with the rest.
Get a fridge anyway.

Avoid getting Robbed
I can honestly say I have done all 3 of those rules every weekend for the past few years and never been robbed once.
However a lot of the tuk tuk guys know me and plus, I'm a big scary Fucker.
There only needs to be 1 rule. Don't be an idiot and use common sense.

I am often up at 3 am and jog around. Admittedly, I do keep an eye out. In PP I have someone take a little too much interest in my person a couple of times and I'd lose them.soursop wrote:1st rule: Avoid going out at night between 11 pm and 5 am.

I certainly try and avoid dark streets though that is not always possible.
Haven't been high in 20 years but I have been known to get pissed once or twice and am still alive.
I have been to countries which are much more dangerous than Cambodia crime-wise but as others have said: common sense goes a long way.

Re: Avoid getting Robbed
Kiwiincambodia has it - If you're falldown drunk get a tuktuk (not that means you're safe) I pretty well go where I want when I want in all 3 cities and have never had a problem. I never carry a bag, never have to much cash and try to be aware. I am also reasonably scary - must be a Kiwi thing
