I own a home in Australia but it's an investment and I wouldn't live in it. I rent in Singapore but that's subsidised (though not fully) by my company, and buying simply isn't worth it here. Doesn't always make sense to buy.

fuck owning a house, you have to save up for years to then put yourself into 30-40 years worth of debt! id rather have my freedom and just rent, moving house in england is a very fiearce business, and theres a lot of fucking about, renting is far more easier in this day in age! ill probably die from "heart stopped" before i reach the "owning a house" / "retirement" age anyway! ahhh Sihnoaukville...

On top of your mortgage, buying a property (in NZ) also comes with the additional annual costs of rates, compulsory insurance, and body corporate fees if you buy a unit/flat/condo, as well as water fees and the added costs of repairs and maintenance. All of these still need to be paid once you own the property free-hold (insurance becomes optional, but you'd be crazy not to have any).

have owned 1 house ( in Ca) sold it for a very good profit
currently own a house here in Phuket (no debt , paid in cash)
great investment , saved tons in rent for 13 years

IN the states u can get a mortgage with as low as 10% down.

To help them on the property ladder, or help them get on the debt ladder?

I used to in England and rented it when I was working away. Decided to sell because it was getting a bit of hassle for the return and I knew I never wanted to live there long term. Have an apartment in Jomtien that is perfect for me and which has always rented when I've wanted to travel.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.
