Re: VIDEO: Ship hits Keys Bridge in Maryland (USA)
The city traffic department must be having a hell of a time working on re-routing the flux of vehicles through the city...
I wonder how bad this event will fuck local businesses up...how long would it take to build another bridge ?
Any Baltimore people here ?
What activities lies in this part of the city ?
Is it in the background of The Wire season 2 ?

Being in the 1989 SF Bay Area earthquake. The collapse of an upper deck section to the Bay Bridge required lengthy repair impacting the daily commute to and from San Francisco.

I heard on the radio that the bridge had already been closed to traffic shortly before, as the mayday call from the ship had been made. The vehicles on the bridge were (apparently) construction and maintenance workers, some of which were on foot and fell into the water. This claim is supported by Reuters:Tootsfriend wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 7:00 pm I just saw 10,000 tweets in China commenting on how USA builds tofu dregs bridges.
But on the serious side, any reports of how many cars or people went down with it.
Six people are missing and presumed dead, Maryland state police said. Two people were rescued, one unharmed and one critically injured.
A construction crew was fixing potholes on the bridge and eight people fell 185 feet (56 meters) into the river where water temperatures were 47 F (8 C).
According to research for the Federal Aviation Administration, that is the upper limit of what a human could survive falling into water.
Authorities saved lives by stopping vehicles from using the bridge after the ship sent out a mayday call, the Maryland governor said.

lol, lucky he didn't know Frances Scott Key was a slave owner ahead of time, or the bridge might have been torn down like every other statue or monument named after one.

The current death toll from the bridge collapse stands at 6.
The dead reportedly include workers from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico.
A surviving construction associate described the deceased as "hard-working, humble men."

[mod edit. This thread has already been tidied up once, for off topic irrelevant posts.]
Re: VIDEO: Ship hits Keys Bridge in Maryland (USA)
If Donald Trump was president the bridge would never have collapsed!
As for the economy taking a hit, plenty of large cargo ships will be stuck there for a while as they clean this mess up.
Will be interesting to see how much it will all cost in the end, not to mention the new bridge.
Video was quite wild, Hollywood material!
But I wonder if they had time to close the bridge, why didn't they tell the workers to get out of there?
Suppose they could have been working on top of the structure or something which didn't give them enough time to abort and get extracted... scary shit, imagine being strapped to the frame of that bridge while watching the ship slowly approach.

Procedure calls for dropping the anchor, that's what may of steered into the bridge.

Stick to being a food critic!
"The 948-foot (288.95 m) vessel had experienced a momentary loss of propulsion and dropped anchors as part of emergency procedures before impact, its management company, Synergy Marine Pte Ltd reported, according to the Singapore Port Authority".
