Re: VIDEO: Ship hits Keys Bridge in Maryland (USA)
Loss of power, loss of steerage, prevailing currents and wind? Last ditch effort (failed) to limit damage?
Slightly more shocking is how vulnerable the bridge was to catastrophic damage from what must (or is that should?) be a considered risk.

Kevin Cartwright, the spokesperson for Baltimore City Fire Department, earlier told Reuters that as many as 20 people could be in the river along with "numerous vehicles, and possibly a tractor-trailer or a vehicle as large as a tractor-trailer, (that) went into the river."
"This is a mass-casualty, multi-agency event," he said. "This operation is going to extend for many days.""

If they would have aimed for it..... They couldn't have done better....Username Taken wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 7:19 pm"Baltimore officials said at least seven vehicles plunged into the water but could not give an exact figure.Tootsfriend wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 7:00 pm But on the serious side, any reports of how many cars or people went down with it.

Conspiracy theories are already abound across social media, with many saying that it lost power (at least the onboard electrical power as in lighting etc) before seemingly deliberately steering into the bridge - which is would need power to do. It seems strange that it only lost part of its power supply but kept the supply that allowed it to steer.
Some are suggesting it looks like some sort of (state?) hacking of the onboard computer systems.

All vessels of this nature in these waters have active redundancy and separate systems to mitigate against the chance of incidents like this happeningxandreu wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 10:36 pm Conspiracy theories are already abound across social media, with many saying that it lost power (at least the onboard electrical power as in lighting etc) before seemingly deliberately steering into the bridge - which is would need power to do. Plus a USMM accredited pilot onboarded to navigate the tricky bits
But in this case looks like a total electrical and mechanical systems failure left it at the mercy of the currents at precisely the wrong time
Very unfortunate. Naturally people will speculate and come out with wild theories as it was global news instantly
Re: VIDEO: Ship hits Keys Bridge in Maryland (USA)
Matty as the bridge was built in 1977 and the steel would have been produced before or at that time then I think you'll find it was made in the USA.Fridaywithmateo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 7:45 pm Shoulda used American steel ... oh yeah, forgot ... they closed all the steel mills and now buy the cheapest steel available from other countries. sighAF
The point of impact was the worst possible area as it was a main structure which as you can see in the video caused the adjoining sections to collapse as each section pulled the other down. The ship reportedly had two Pilots on board but as has been stated and again it can be viewed in various videos, a fully loaded ship that size and underway that loses all power carries an incredible amount of forward motion aided by possibly an outgoing tide and other weather conditions.
But as someone said the conspiracy theories will be all over the internet if they are not already.

Hello DALI
Reported on CNN website: DALI ship collided with stone wall at Belgium port in 2016, according to ship tracking site.

This incident may rival the Costa Concordia disaster in 2012.
