It's nothing more than a Low Cost Carrier - LCC - shifting it's responsibility for returning passengers denied entry to Cambodia for any reason from the carrier, at the carrier's expense, to the passenger denied entry to Cambodia by immigration for whatever reason.
The vast majority of travelers on this airline will probably never be asked to show financial self-sufficiency at time of obtaining their boarding pass. Just those of certain nationalities with a high rejection rate by Cambodian immigration, or those that are likely, in the estimation of the airline check in staff, to cause concerns to an immigration police officer on arrival.

China Airlines is doing the same thing as EVA (both Taiwan companies) the last 2 times I boarded in Vancouver. The first time around the boarding lounge guy at the gate would not let me board without an onward ticket no matter how much I tried to argue that it wasn't necessary. Asshole. Ended up buying a ticket to Hanoi right there. Thank you onward ticket. 14 bucks pissed away but a fuck of a lot better than missing my flight. Second time I had a flight out to KL so not an issue. Only happened one other time in almost 30 years so it seems they are definitely tightening up.

These days the vast majority of the people travelling between BKK and PNH are Cambodians.Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 2:20 pm It's nothing more than a Low Cost Carrier - LCC - shifting it's responsibility for returning passengers denied entry to Cambodia for any reason from the carrier, at the carrier's expense, to the passenger denied entry to Cambodia by immigration for whatever reason.

AirAsia back from Phnom Penh to Bangkok this morning, no questions about onward travel, visa for Thailand or anything else.
As always, I had checked in using their mobile app, but had to go to the counter to get an officially printed boarding pass, as Phnom Penh International Airport still doesn't accept the electronic version in the year 2024.
I used the near empty Baggage Drop lane as per usual for this "service". Near empty I say, with one noteworthy exception, as there was a barang twat ahead of me who had to re-pack some stuff right there at the counter, wasting quite a bit of time.
I was too early anyway and enjoyed some quality time in the departure hall. At Don Mueang, there were more immigration officers on duty than arriving passengers.
Not much excitement, but not the worst flight either!

Thats the biggest crock of shit Ive seen on any message board in 20 years.HaifongWangchuck wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 11:35 pmDiscoverSEA wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 10:06 pm No one carries cash anymore. I certainly never do and have happily holidayed in several countries without having to handle money.
Can I confidently assume the tuktuk drivers and girls I may meet in Cambodia will have personal card readers?
As for "girls" you may meet, keep in mind that prostitution is illegal in this country, and authorities are beginning to crack down on the sort of tourist who comes here with that in mind (especially since the current government has decided to make raising Cambodia's international profile to be a top priority), so perhaps Thailand may be more to your liking?

Sure, I often go to small shops and stalls, good luck getting them to take anything except cash.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 1:49 pmI wouldn't leave the house, much less the country without cash+cabron wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 1:22 pmTraveling without cash obviously your not a savvy traveler.johnny lightning wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 6:23 am Nobody carries cash anymore. Perhaps a sweeping statement that's just a tad hyperbolic? Just a bit? Let us know how your VOA goes without it.

How do you figure? Authorities have been cracking down on vice tourism and trying to encourage a higher class element since at least the end of COVID, that is why it is theorised there was originally a 4k deposit in the first place (though they later lowered it to 2k before eliminating it outright to encourage post-COVID growth).
Afterall, Cambodia can't ever compete with Thailand on vice and debauchery tourism in the first place (I think more tourists went to Pattaya alone than the entirety of Cambodia in 2023), so this country tries to find its niche with older, more family-oriented travellers or those who like the relatively unspoiled rainforest environment.

So to reiterate: Yes, such tourists are not only uncatered to, but no longer welcome. The days of Heart of Darkness, KPS beer guzzling by the beach, and Happy Herb Pizzas is long over.

Long over? You live there and can say this with a straight face? Even if that was the case there is still plenty of "vice" provided for the locals, and that ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

You have no idea of what you are talking about. Thats as kind as I can be when confronted with folks who expose blatant stupidity in a forum where folks are supposed to have a basic idea of the subject matter..HaifongWangchuck wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 5:31 amWildAlaskaKen wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 4:14 pmThats the biggest crock of shit Ive seen on any message board in 20 years.

Happy PIzza is still open in Siem Reap by the way.
