Another idiotic comment by Trump

Since the end of the cold war in the early 1990s, many European countries have subjected their militaries to an endless series of budget cuts. That wouldn't have worked without relying on Uncle Sam coming to their rescue, unconditionally and in a heartbeat - which has been a pretty selfish position.
So when since the Cold War has Uncle Sam come to the rescue? Do the former Easter Bloc territories of Yugoslavia count? The only time Article 5 was evoked was after 9-11, which meant other NATO countries helping the US in their "War on terror".

The European NATO countries have already bumped up their defence budgets. I gave a source above. There is no "bill to pay". The 2% requirements only come into force this year.
The problem with Trump encouraging Russia to attack is that not only does he not understand NATO funding, he doesn't understand the basic nature of a defence agreement. If Russia attacks any NATO country the US is obligated to attack Russia -just like the other countries did when they helped the US in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Trump’s presidency has served as a long overdue wake-up call, and now the war in Ukraine and the prospect of Trump’s return for another term reinforces the need for European countries to invest a lot more in their militaries.
I don't think you read John's reply above your comment. Ditto those who liked yours. I'd wager you are all Americans with a similar inexplicable blindspot, or "soft spot" for lies, idiocy and nonsensical bluster based on nothing.

Trump did cheat a lot of people out of money through bogus contracts and let-down deals, bankruptcies, and fake write-offs on his taxes based on bankruptcy/debt-claims/exemptions...

Americans like crooks. Too much sympathy for too many Marvel and TV villains filling up their stomachs in place of brains...

Simply political posturing - he is absolutely right that the EU/NATO has not upheld its part of the bargain and the US has been relied on for too long to fund such operations
Which operations?
Serbia and Kosovo in the 1990s? NATO involvement in Afghanistan/ Iraq since was purely in the United States' interest. Of course the other countries have realized they need to pay more attention to defense now, especially when it's likely that a Russian asset could be in the White House again soon.
Trump is an idiot, but when talking about NATO member's spendings he simply has a point. Ever since the demise of the USSR European NATO members have been extremely lax while enjoying 'the holiday from history'.

He might have had a point if he had said that in 2014. As above, things have changed and he is not helping by praising and encouraging Putin.

Trump has been manipulating people with money for so long, he just assumes NATO must function the same way.

And he can whoop up his supporters on the pretense of "calling in a loan" like some juiceshark in a track suit from a Queens basement bodega. And it works.

I wonder if he's even read that treaty.
(or had it read to him)

Poland gets it. It’s working on building the biggest army in Europe. Bigger than France or Germany. Creating a confederation of countries from the Baltic to the Mediterranean.

Historically, Eastern Europe has been the battleground. From the Mongols to the Arabs to the Russians. Open plains and few natural obstacles, make it ideal horse (and now) tank country. The only way to prevent invasion is by having the largest military. During the Confederacy of olden times, it wasn’t the stomping grounds of empires because of that.

The Winged Hussars are back to save Europe.

It's really really sad that the US population has to choose between 2 idiots - Trump and Biden. Isn't there anyone better in the whole country. Or do the illuminati want idiots they can push around and manipulate? If I had to choose I'd choose Trump. Biden is a bigger fraud than Trump and he's senile.

Never understood the anger towards Trump. He's like the presidential version of an Iphone.
In my mind they are just American politicians.

I would like to know who these Trump/Biden haters would like to be their president.
