Metro in Phnom Phen

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Metro in Phnom Phen

Post by Fridaywithmateo »

I am curious ... does anybody think they will do it?

Traffic is horrible already. Imagine if things come back to normal (as in pre-CV growth).

Just thinking out loud, but if I were HM, with all my assets, I would get it done inside 2-3 year window ... and then go from there.

But not hire locals ... hire the best of the best and cut no corners ... yes, talking about brining in an army of Japanese engineering.

The figured it out long ago.

Could work.

Silence, exile, and cunning.

What would happen to all the tuk tuk & motodups when the India dress makers become station masters?
Though I don't like to stereotype, it reads as being apocalyptic

Nah ... none of any of that ... if Cambodia invests in metro systems, I think they can make this city competitive, with the right moves of course.

On Japan, my protest is strictly about tourism. Business is business.

Whatever. Good you can change your position as you see fit, but you did state previously that you would never purchase anything Japanese. But just a note to yourself, it appears Japan's metro system has done nothing to make it cities world class. In 2023, Japan had some of the worst traffic metro cities in the world:

14. Sapporo
25. Nagoya
27. Tokyo
56. Osaka

And what do you mean "make the city competitive"?
