China's birth rate is dropping

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Taxing robots production is a one time deal, not a steady paycheck the government can continue to take, along with all sorts of consumption taxes that funds everything.

Population is not proportionally decreasing. Increasing numbers of elderly compared to younger workers. Skyrocketing pension costs, medical costs, everything costs on the government with a massive decrease in revenue.

Families were punished for having more than one child with fines, loss of jobs, beatings, imprisonment and torture of relatives,
holy shit!
In 2023, The New York Times reported there were 35 million more men than women in China.
As for the 30+mil gender imbalance, I wonder if 20 years ago, if any researchers predicted that China would export these single men to find wives all over South East Asia? Weren't people predicting either a huge conquering Army or, rampant gayness on a scale never before seen?

It's not fertility per se but the fact they are not having sex. Nothing wrong with their spunk.

For centuries, children were a financial asset to a family. They could help with the family business, help out in the fields, tend to the animals, work in factories, sweep chimneys... you name it. If they did jobs which benefitted the family, they were free labour. If they went out to work for other people, they were extra family income. It was a win-win. And the more kids you had, the better.

The world we live in now has now turned 180 degrees on its head, where children are now a financial burden. And a huge one at that. The way the world is going (it's already here in fact), it is near impossible for people to sustain themselves with a lifestyle that gives them any degree of dignity, let alone adding the burden of children into the mix.

This has been known about for a long time and it requires a revolutionary change in the way economies works. I'm not suggesting capitalism is to blame, but the form of capitalism we have now (It began with Reagan and Thatcher) plays a big part. The beauty of capitalism is that it has dials which can be turned and tweaked - if the political will was there to do it.

I could go on and on about this, but I'll bear in mind that this is a thread about birth rate decline, not the evils of modern-day capitalism.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.

That's what I love about Khmer culture ... having babies is expected if not demanded.

I will contribute at least two more. Trying for a girl (dragon) and a boy (horse).

"The government is even going as far as calling and texting women to “encourage” them to have more children. One woman, who hid her second pregnancy a decade ago, and was fined $10,000 when officials found out, now gets text messages from government officials encouraging her to have more children. She deletes them in anger."

Good, you might say. Most of the western countries are in the same situation.
Western countries may be dealing with similar problems, but the severity of the situation in China is pretty shocking

In mainland China children are nicknamed gold eating monsters.
Costs millions of yuan for each stage of development.

Families are just struggling to survive right now.

People aren’t getting married because they have nothing to offer in marriage.

Right now the current generation is lying flat - doing the minimum just to survive.

Living by the 10 NOs - getting married NO, having children NO. Not willing to be a chive to be harvested by the CPP.

Vaccines COVID is far down the list.
