Would you leave the doors and windows open in America?

I guess we can look forward to the wedding pictures next,if there really is one?

Depends on location. Out in the deep countryside, some houses don’t even have locks. Of course everyone there has shotguns and sidearms close by to deal with any unwanted guests.

Lots of people still keep their patio doors (backyard) unlocked. Especially if they are home. It’s just an unlocked gate from street, to the front yard, to the backyard. Even windows are kept open to let in the breeze.

Bad neighborhoods have iron fences. Really bad ones have bars on the windows and doors.

Unfortunately bullets go through plywood siding drywall with ease. Bystanders get shot at home, in their beds, on their couches, in their cribs.

I personally keep everything closed and locked. Western aircon is designed to be most efficient in sealed houses. Missus is very conscientious about locking all doors and windows.

All the houses I've lived in in Cambodia have looked like prisons. The only time I ever got burgled was when I left my balcony door slightly open, it was high up and and I forgot about spiderman skills.

That's the weird thing about US house construction, it's all timber frames and drywall, In SE Asia and Europe brick/ concrete external walls are preferred, probably why we don't need so many guns.

Especially in a tornado country, i don't get why no concrete, every time all what is left is a mess of plywood. Not especially cheap by the way...
Try tornado or guns in my family house, not a chance with 80 cm stone walls...but none of them around^^

Has to do with convenience and speed. Plywood timber frames allow for rapid design changes and dramatic renovations. Taking out walls or adding them is easy. Wiring is stapled onto the plywood frame, plumbing is drilled through. Major structural changes aren’t so easy with concrete.

The chance of a tornado is random. Most never get hit by a tornado. Even so, human memory is short. Buildings in tornado alley have concrete cellars people run to.

In SE Asia flooding is guaranteed. Not one or two houses, but everyone. Multiple times a year.

Anyone know why Europe uses brick concrete external walls?
