Thailand Travel Insurance for Farang

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Health insurance for non-Thais coming

‘Hint’ system expected to help the stateless and expand coverage in border areas
December 12, 2023

Staff at Samut Sakhon Hospital explain medications to a migrant worker undergoing a medical checkup as part of the labour registration process in the province adjacent to Bangkok.

The Ministry of Public Health says its Health Insurance for Non-Thai People (Hint) system will debut on Jan 1, allowing stateless and non-Thai people to get access to healthcare coverage.

Public Health Minister Cholnan Srikaew has a policy to improve access to healthcare in border areas, especially among non-Thai groups, said Dr Surachoke Tangwiwat, the ministry’s acting deputy permanent secretary.

The Hint system offers quick registration, with processing time of just five minutes, compared with a few weeks under the old system. It also allows non-Thai people who do not hold identification documents to register for treatment and coverage.

The system is linked with the ministry’s financial data hub, which will enable hospitals to reimburse medical fees of non-Thais within 24 hours and can guarantee transfers in 15 days.

Dr Direk Sutdan, director of the Division of Health Economics and Health Security, recently visited hospitals in Chiang Rai province to follow up on the effectiveness of the Hint system.

He and Aree Moungsookjareoun, a border and migrant health officer with the World Health Organization, also spoke with non-Thai people who had experienced a lack of public health access in tambon Wiang Phang Kham in Mae Sai.

A very Good/positive move
This is aimed at the stateless Burma refugees living in the camps on the border( some have been there their whole lives) in a hopeless situation as Thailand would not before allow them to be recognized as stateless in Thailand or allow the kids to attend school or those living in the camps to work

NO idea what this means as many have no jobs, much less $%$,

I assume it means the government will reimburse the hospital's for any treatment,

any legal migrant from Burma, laos or Cambodia on a L-A visa already gets the following
work permit
a Health card ( and can use gov hospotal same as a thai)
and a NON thai id card good for 10 years

My khmer wife has one :-)
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

The plight of the hilltribes in Northern Thailand is nothing short of disgusting they are completely stateless with no access to ID cards, passports or anything most of them living in remote villages with no running water or electricity?

Acka,Lisu,Karen,Hmong et al there are lots of them in Chiang Mai and they are regularly extorted by the RTP/Royal Thai Police for not having any identification documents.

I honestly have no idea how Thailand has been allowed to get away with such shocking treatment of these poor downtrodden people for so long?
