Probably the Heathrow snowploughs are "made in britain" Leylands. They brake down even with sunny weather, if its -15 degrees now way to even start them i suppose. Check some video how they clear the runway ay Icelands Reykjavik airport !!!

Aviation De-icing is a whole science and industry all to itself, with so many facets, so many factors to take into consideration. Much of which goes unappreciated, even within the industry.
UK airports get some bad press, but they are far from the worst.
Actually, some of the better prepared locations are not so hot when getting the job done.
