Village serenity (not a guy talking 20 minutes and thinking its about him) Hard working village people, animals living in harmony, great picture.Fridaywithmateo wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 9:48 pm This is pretty cool too … if you happen to land a whole bull.

Got a pot of Jasmine rice on the stove now, spiked with chicken broth, garlic, shallot, red bell pepper, banana pepper, a ramen chicken soup MSG packet and Kampot ground pepper. Smellin' pretty good. Prolly do a squid fried rice later.

A few kilos of home fried chicken, air fryer fries with dipping sauce, and a side salad

"Lamb rendang pie", but pie crust is more akin to samosa crust to be quite frank

Yeah, and looks aren't deceiving in this case. You have always the less leathery options of pork or chicken. But that's what you get for 2 fifty , (€ actually, or 3 Us$).Earl of Mercia wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 4:33 amThe meat looks like you could eat it or resole your shoes or flip-flops with it?Dario wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 3:06 am On my stove tonight....
I felt tempted to say japanese school girl uniforms, sliced and smoked.
But i don't want to be a troll, therefore i retract the above.
First time i took a food picture, i think, because i want to explain to a friend back home what a 2dollarfifty menu looks like.
It's probably more or less the same all throughout South America except in Peru where they have a latin/asian fusion cuisine.
Possibly other places where i haven't been. Chile, Surinam etc. Pretty sure though it's similar in Venezuela.
Homemade juice
Big serving of red beans, or soup
The plate itself almost always invariably the same: meat of choice, rice, salad and a big slice of grilled platano, banana's big brother.
I only cook when i feel it's time again for some healthy vegetables
Even though the latin cuisine is in general pretty bland, the best steaks i'm eating are here in Colombia, not in Argentina or Uruguay!
And if you wanna pay more than say 30 dollars for a fantastic steak, you probably have to eat it in the restaurant of a 5 star hotel.
Bandeja paisa is not for me, mostly because i can't stand the fried pig skin, (chicharron), nor the sausages they put on it.

Crickets, from Cambodia.
Fried and served with rice and fried fish.
Missus has been craving them for a while.
After the crickets, she ran to the toilet to vomit.
And went to bed shortly after. Still sleeping now.
Must use fresh crickets next time.
Who knows how long those crickets have been kept?

Crickets can easily be raised in Texas. They'd probably be the biggest, juiciest goddamn crickets in the world. These foods need to be fresh.

There’s tons in the yard. Meow the cat loves hunting them. Cries day and night to go out to hunt.John Bingham wrote:Crickets can easily be raised in Texas. They'd probably be the biggest, juiciest goddamn crickets in the world. These foods need to be fresh.
Maybe backyard cricket might be the next project.

They have to be the right species. And apparently it's best to not eat wild caught ones immediately. They may have been feeding on toxic vegetation. You need to starve them and then feed them something tasty to get good results.
