Re: Ireland
The Irish Presidency is an honorific head of state position which has nominal powers over the Dail Eireann, the Oirechtas and the armed forces in the same manner that the Kang of England has over the UK Parliament. Officially it's not nominal power and the President can veto any act - in reality these powers have never been exercised by any sitting president
The position has historically been a retirement home for retired Irish political gombeens; Douglas Hyde, Sean O Kelly, Eamon De Valera, Erskine Childers, Charles O Daly, Patrick Hillery, Mary Robinson, Mary Mcaleese and Micheal D Higgina. There have been just four since years before I was born as these get voted in for a seven year term and can then DECIDE whether they take another seven year term OR have an election. . .
So in 2025 it looks like we get to choose between a retired IRA commander Gerry Adams, a slimy utterly corrupt ex Irish PM prick in Bertie Ahern or the Knacker in The Suit in McGregor
It's a tough choice and I really couldn't say who would win that election except that it won't be Bertie. . .
