That’s a little shocking ( first i heard ) but definitely par for the course .
I got another year on my house here anyway , and as long as I’m not dead yet there’s always a pisssbility I will
move back there to die as was my original plan when I first landed there .. would not look forward to moving
with all of my accumulations but it’s a possibility if they have a good school and hospice care ..
when I die the money stops , social security is eluding my dependent..
Is it possible to get from where they sell gallons of milk back to my bungalow ?

As a one time resident of the place I can only say that the OP's idea of progress and mine differ greatly!

Was that the bar owned and operated by indigenous Australians?rogerrabbit wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 1:50 pmSome of the old restaurants and bars are still around on Ochheuteal Beach. They just moved a bit, about 100 meter, to new buildings put up by the city. Khin's Shack for example. It's been on the beach for what 15 years(?), owned by the same family. You can still enjoy sunset with cheap beer and BBQ there.Mostcurious wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 3:00 am I understand what you are saying.
The only part of Sihanoukville that still remains are the Golden Lions landmark on the roundabout.
Just right of the ferry pier at Ochheuteal beach there was once a row of bars and restaurants overlooking the sea.
I enjoyed drinking at the bar as the sun was setting, all that has gone now which is a shame.
There are now many unfinished buildings situated all over the city, which could be described as an eye sore. On closer inspection it was interesting to see how locals had actually taken up residence in the unfinished buildings.
What I feel still remains is the warm Cambodian hospitality.

I was there first in 2006 and thought it was a seedy dump. Last time was a couple of years ago and the city looked really awful. Abandoned carcases of buildings everywhere. Down the coast at Otres or wherever I stayed wasn't so bad. I was at a party in a gated community in the hills above Psah Leu and that part was surprisingly nice. In general it was shit though. Streets with poxy casinos and bullshit architecture and empty lots. There's a reason we used to call it Shitsville.Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 9:14 am
Well, When I first went there in 2009 it was a dingy and seedy and ugly port town shithole that happened to have some nice beaches within an easy ride distance
Now it's an empty overbuilt weird, seedy and ugly port town shithole and the people there have a bad attitude
It's worth daytripping while on way to the islands, or if one is enough of a sad bastard to put renting an ok apartment on a major discount ahead of every other quality of life metric then perhaps it's not a bad place to live on a budget

That may appeal to some people, but not to me I'm afraid.orichá wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 11:10 pm Tonight in Sihanoukville...lots of people here...

If you like a lot of casino's, half-built tower blocks & a busy noisy road running along the back of the beach, then its ideal for you
Everything I liked about the place has been destroyed (developed).
I do hope to re-visit the Koh Rong islands in the next few years, and that will be the only time I get close to what was Snooky

Yes, a great location for an action movie about Chinese gangsters.

I have no clue to be honest. I only had drink once or twice there over the years.Earl of Mercia wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 10:16 pmWas that the bar owned and operated by indigenous Australians?rogerrabbit wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 1:50 pmSome of the old restaurants and bars are still around on Ochheuteal Beach.
