So if all of the above is true and given the value of the item in question what is to stop you taking a weekend break in Saigon. Buying the item and returning to PP. Would they even know if you purchased it there unless you made a point of saying.. "hey officer... I went to saigon for a weekend break and bought this really expensive item .. how much tax would you like me to pay on it?"
Why would I lie? I am a keen birder and need a lens with a lot of reach. If it is not available here, I will fly to BKK or HCMC, but I do not like flying and I was hoping I could get it here.
Need a zoom camera lens -- use your feet.
Right, for photographing birds flying overhead or on top of trees.......
That lens … not more than $100 … if 2.8 … another story.
Sorry, but you do not much about camera lenses....
Apologies for the confusion but when I stated "if all of the above is true" I was referring to my understanding of the facts as they appeared to me and that I had listed immediately above.

I’ve bought stuff there before when I lived in Vietnam. But I am worried about customs, it is not a cheap lens.

Route the order through Cambo Quick = no customs clearance fees

I have never used them as it seems all very complicated. They do not go through customs?

When I order with them I email them with a link to the product and the vendor and any other relevant details - they give me their price and I pay them, then when item arrives I pay them their handling fee based on item weight

I've never been customs taxed through them, obv query this yourself

On FB there's a seller named 'Olympus Cambodia'
Doesn't seem to be Olympus itself but maybe he can assist you?

One more thought ... If you can break your addiction to Olympus, I want to suggest Nikon P1000 ... Best zoom for the buck. 3000x. But it's digital and would be sketchy under 0c or over 40c ... also not durable if you need to really ride it hard in the field.

Good luck with it all.

Can I ask what it will be zooming on?

That's a great question. What might a keen birder be zooming in on?

I think you've already shown how little you know about the topic, why are you continuing to embarrass yourself?

Tits.
A variety of Tits.
I’m no aficionado, but I’m guessing Cambodia has them, too.
