Boys to play football or to skilfully send their shoes in a spinning whirl across the smooth paving of the promenade. A group of bigger boys on bikes in a hurry to get to some unknown rendezvous suddenly appear, zig zagging around the walkers. Sellers plod steadily along with their wheeled carts of food or drinks. Skaters cruise by, some with expertise and some unsteadily. Groups of girls, dressed up for each other, stride confidently through this melee of humanity.

As darkness rapidly falls the lights twinkle from the boats and from the opposite shore - then a mighty lurid green luminance suddenly emerges to announce its dominance over the nocturnal riverside scene, exhorting the populace to consume some beverage of questionable taste, an exhortation which most ignore. On and off goes the light in unrelenting enthusiasm, as it advertises its lamentable message.
