English Dentist Coming to Cambodia to Assist Dental Charity
Shropshire dentist prepares for aid mission to Cambodia
By Matthew Panter

A dentist from Shropshire is hoping to give people a reason to smile again as part of a mission to offer free emergency dental care in Asia.
Greig Wilson, dental therapist at Much Wenlock-based Twickel Dental Practice, will help set up a preventative dental program for people in Cambodia through Dentaid The Dental Charity.
Greig will be volunteering with a team of 14 clinicians for two weeks and will be mainly providing dental care for vulnerable children.
He said: “I am expecting my trip to Cambodia to be an unforgettable experience, both professionally and personally, and it's something I am really looking forward to.
“I am also delighted to be supporting a charity that does some amazing work in providing healthcare to some of the most isolated populations and vulnerable people all over the world.
“Due to events of the last century in Cambodia, there are many people without access to affordable basic services including dental care and a big focus of this visit will be around education and prevention.”
Twickel Dental was established in 2008 and offers an extensive range of dental treatments from general dental care to cosmetic treatments. Welcoming children of all ages, it also provides dental examinations, oral hygiene, treatments and fun education to help them develop a great habit from a young age.

Re: English Dentist Coming to Cambodia to Assist Dental Charity
Another one one of those "tell you everything but tell you nothing " press releases.
Where for example will this dentist or Dental Aid Charity be basing themselves and working from?
And what are the dates that this dentist from Shropshire/Dental Aid Charity be working in Cambodia?
And how does one contact them or take advantage of their services?
Not related. Shropshire. I went to school in Shrewsbury and then served in the KSLI at Copthorne Barracks during the days of National Service but I was a Regular. At least I avoided being a "Bevin Boy" and serving in the coal mines.

Although the article is short on details, I still think it’s noble for this dentist to donate his time and expertise.
Of course, this is really the job of the government to take care of its people instead of depending on NGOs to do it. But the system has worked forever so will be unlikely to ever change.

They’ll be working with one2one - if you want details I suggest contacting the people on the ground hereOt Mean Loi wrote: ↑Thu Oct 19, 2023 2:53 pm Another one one of those "tell you everything but tell you nothing " press releases.

I don’t think it’s a press release - more of a public interest story.
I’m pretty sure readers of the Shropshire Star aren’t particularly interested in the village, district, commune and province of the ministry. Most of them probably couldn’t even pick out Cambodia on a map.

Fantastic heart warming story. I really admire people who take time out of their busy lives to selflessly donate their expertise to the less fortunate. Bravo.
I’d be pretty certain if you’re in need of this vital service you’ll be made aware of it and be in the loop. These NGO are very switched on.

Re: English Dentist Coming to Cambodia to Assist Dental Charity
Having looked into more English mouths over the years than I would have dreamed of, I'd say England's dental services probably aren't far ahead of Cambodia's, or more to the point, access to quality dental care seems to be limited to a rather small part of the population there as well.
Just to be clear, I'm not dissing this particular initiative by this particular dentist. I just took the opportunity to diss England's failing healthcare system once again.

Re: English Dentist Coming to Cambodia to Assist Dental Charity
In hindsight I probably should have gone in to more depth.
My point being that each year whole teams of dentists and assorted medical specialists come from overseas to provide pro-bono medical services to indigent Cambodians, and do so intensively from early morning through to nightfall and in remote and urban Cambodia.
I speak from personal experience in this area because for many years now I have been part of some of these teams in a non-medical lay capacity.
Some overseas teams chose to base themselves on locations such as the Russian Friendship Hospital for ophthalmic surgery or at the Puthisastra University school of dentistry for pediatric and adult dental surgery.
Others, such as CHPAA - Cambodian Health Professionals Association of America -
https://chpaa.org/missions-to-cambodia/
Here is a video clip from last years activity based on Mongkul Borey, Bantey Meanchey Province:
Go to a different province in need every year. Next year in late January/February for example it will be based at the 16 Makara Provincial Referral Hospital at Preah Vihear City.
At any given time there is a highly skilled group of medical specialists from an overseas country providing a range of very skilled medical services pro-bono somewhere in Cambodia.
And, of course, it is prior publicity at Village, Commune, District and Province and beyond publicity that makes those in need turn up in near overwhelming numbers to receive the multi-medical disciplinary pro-bono medical services they can't get. And, ironically, frequently in the grounds of their own provincial hospital!
As an example, an Australian team will be providing pro-bono ophthalmic surgical services in Kg Cham next week.

Yes. When it's dentistry we're talking about, you really can't drill in deeply enough.Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 1:23 pm In hindsight I probably should have gone in to more depth.

To be honest, I don’t see what your point is apart from telling us how much you know…Ot Mean Loi wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 1:23 pm In hindsight I probably should have gone in to more depth.
