Schoolgirls' Snail Hunt Ends in Triple Tragedy

Cambodia News, (Banteay Meanchey Province): A tragic case of drowning occurred when three teenage girls who went to find snails during the rainy season, slipped and fell into the canal, at 5:30 pm on October 7, 2023 at a point in Veal Sre canal in Mak Horn village, Kob commune, O'Chrov district.
The three victims were members of the same family:
1. Sum Saori, female, 16 years old, Khmer, living in Mak Horn village, Kob commune, O'Chrov district.
2. Sum Saorath, female, 12 years old, Khmer, living in Mak Horn village, Kob commune, O'Chrov district.
3. Oeun Sophea, female, 12 years old, Khmer, living in Mak Horn village, Kob commune, O'Chrov district.

According to the police, the victims' grandmother, 69-year-old Van Soth, a resident of Mak Horn village, became concerned when the girls did not return at nightfall with their catch of snails.
It seems that the deaths occurred when one of the girls fell into the canal and couldn't swim, and the other two drowned while they were trying to rescue her.

Remember when i lived in Kampot and sat by the pond there two khmers were picking snails of the sloped edges, they slipped as these are very slippery with algie and they almost drowned in and pond in the middle of the town but some people came with some sticks and saved them.

If you cant even svim then wtf are you doing... The snails cost 5.000 riel for a can cooked and with sauce so what is there to die for.
