Long layover in Xiamen
Re: Long layover in Xiamen
Fwiw I have flown a bunch of Chinese airlines and did the transit thing but all pre Covid. Definitely did Xiamen at least once. Flights were fine. I seem to remember that airport being a real nightmare. Definitely not the worst as far as immigration harassment (Quindao wins that one) but I remember being stuck in a waiting lounge with absolutely nothing to do for a very long time. No ability to wander and visit shops. No restaurants. Just nothing. I could be wrong about it being Xiamen but I think I remember having the option for a longer layover where I could get out but choosing the shorter one instead. I researched the city and it seemed interesting which probably made the wait there worse. It was only 4 hours or so but they were miserable hours. If I remember correctly then my take was to only go there if I could get out of the airport. Things change and my memory could be off so once again tifwiw.

Re: Long layover in Xiamen
Again, thanks for your support.
Went to get an exit visa today for my son to return and get a K visa. Denied at immigration departmenr.
Had all docs, Khmer wife and kid there too.
"If you are married, you can take your son on holiday. If not married, you are a child stealer traffiker."
Note, all documents, proof of 15 years here, proof of return ticket, proof of mother saying it is ok, proof of embassy notorized document saying it is ok.
So I lose the airfare, but most importantly, I lose control of my and my familys self determination.
I am upset and wish to expound further but ALL OF YOU SHOULD KNOW. Times of goodwill towards barangs are over. I am considered a traffiker because???? Just so wierd and distressing.
On a positive note, at least Xiamen didnt abduct my child. (as a note to a previous post about paranoia).

Re: Long layover in Xiamen
I flew last sunday back to Europe from PNH with a 14h layover in XMN. Maybe my expirience is a little "over-coloured" because i never ever flew bussiness-class, it was my first time (always hurt, not ??). I was a little surprised about the price a month ago, 880 euros one-way business class with a 14h layover at XMN with chinese airline Xaimen-airlines. I found after booking out, that they offer you a free hotel if your layover is longer then 6h, but you have to run behind it. I booked already a hotel in Xiamen, but cancelled it later. Leaving sunday-night 18.45 to arive after 2.30 in Xiamen at 22.15 a bit ahead of schedule. The airport was pretty empty and on the airplane were maybe 5 barangs, rest al KH or CHN. Immigration was 5 minutes, just asked me my ongoing flight the day after to AMS and i received a small sticker as 24h-chinese-visa. Then on the look for the free hotel: after doing all the checks and collecting your luggage (you always have to collect them here), just before leaving the building, follow "domestic transfert" and they have a special desk "transit-accomodation" or something like that, sorry forget the right word. Checked in there and was gaven in 5 minutes a paper with all the info in chinese printed (handy for taxi-driver) and i was lucky, they have also a free shuttle-bus who was about to leave. Go out with that paper and they will point you to the right bus, was told, it was a free ride, and for 100 Yuan i get picked up next day at desired time at the hotel (thats over-priced but up and down not bad). The bus-ride took about 25 with a stopover at an other hotel. Second hotel was mine: Xiamen-airlines-lakeview hotel, very nice 4 star place, stunning to my standards. Checked in and 1h15 after opening the planes doors i was in my free room !! The breakfast is a little overpriced for me (150 yuan) but as i had Bussiness class, didnt use it. ¨Pick-up at 10.00 at the hotel and again after 1.15 i was at my gate again, went to the lounge (nr 6) for free breakfast and take-off on time at 12.35. On the flight more then enough and good food. The videos are more chinese-orientated but they have also hollywood movies. Full-flat seat was amazing for mee, had a nice sleep during the day and arrived with 15m delay at AMS-airport 18.00. If they keep this prices i will use them again, cant complain about anything at all !!
