Girl Student Commits Suicide Night Before Exam

Cambodia News, (Kampong Thom Province): A 15-year-old female student tragically took her life at around 19:25 on October 1, 2023, by jumping from the Kampong Thom stone bridge in Kampong Krabao village, Sangkat Kampong Krabao, Stung Sen city, Kampong Thom province.

This shocking incident happened just hours before the exam, which the young woman had to take on the morning of October 2, 2023. It is said that her grandmother and aunt were scolding the girl for hanging out and looking at her phone instead of studying for the coming exam. The young woman, a ninth-grade student at Kampong Thom High School, became angry and upset, and she went to the bridge and jumped off.

Currently, the authorities and the family of the victim have been searching for her body.

How sad. But I don’t understand how grandma’s scolding her for not studying would cause this tragedy to happen.

This isn’t Japan (or Korea) where a person’s entire life is ruled by an exam. And students jump off buildings or in front of trains for their failure to make the grade.

15-year-old Schoolgirl Found Dead after Jumping from Stung Sen Bridge
The body has been given over to the family for funeral rites.

Cambodia News(Kampong Thom): Colonel Kim Sok Makara, Police Inspector of Stung Sen City, the older brother of the student who took her life by jumping from Stung Sen bridge on 1 October, led the search for the body of his sister Mao Sopheap.
The missing girl was a 15-year-old ninth-grade student living in Kdei village, Prey Tahou commune, Stung Sen city. She jumped from the bridge on the evening of October 1 at 7:25pm, and her body was found floating in Peam Kreng village, Kdei Dong commune, Kampong Svay district on 3 October at 7:10am.
