How much money did you have at your disposal when you arrived in Cambodia? Poll.

Post by Kung-fu Hillbilly »

I understand everyone's money situation is considerably different when they arrive in Cambodia from the teacher needing a job ASAP to the cashed up retiree, or the business guy/gal looking for an opportunity, to someone relying on the pension/social security cheque each month, and other financial circumstances unique to individuals.

Like all money related questions to do with Cambodia, it's a question of interest to some. I also think past and present experience is of value, so even if you've been out of country for a while...

We're talking available cash in your pocket, you can pull from the ATM, under the mattress,...

Play, don't play. Pfft

But 500 baht got you a lot more in 1928.

kinda related but was thinking about this issue recently. I currently go to Cambodia 2 months out of the year and at some point when make a bigger move was wondering how it would change for me.

I can't live the way I live when only there 2 months. It's not sustainable.2 month vacation/travel is different then actually living full time in a country. I would need some structure, work part time and drink / party way less.

Was that a difficult adjustment for anyone on here? Esp in the beginning ?

I arrived looking for a position in sept 2015 with around 300$, a room at a friend's house, and a little coding plan B job just in case...

I started out with nothing, and I still got most of it left!

I bet @pissontheroof knows that one.

The first time I crossed the border into Cambodia I had to lend $10 from a stranger for a room and a bus to Phnom Penh, then beg $50 from the Australian embassy to get me back to the country I'd just come from to retrieve money I should have left with in the first place.

Don't do drugs.

Tricky to answer for me. I've never taken a lot of cash to Cambodia and my first few trips were very short. But "at my disposal" via an ATM? Leaving aside that there are daily withdrawal limits and that it would take quite a long time to withdraw significant amounts, I COULD have if I had needed to.
