Violent gang members brought to book over deaths
Buth Reaksmey Kongkea / Khmer Times
Four gang members were charged and jailed by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday for allegedly beating to death a youth while drinking at a club in Daun Penh district last week.

The accused were identified as Heang Bunheng, 18, Poeun Chiva alias “Ting”, 18; San Kimhong, 18; and Meng Leangheng, 19.

The four were charged by the court with “intentional act of violence” under Article 29 and 218 of the Criminal Code and face a jail term from two to five years each, if convicted.

Daun Penh District Police Chief Colonel Teang Chansar said yesterday that the suspects were members of a gangster group known to police.

Col Chansar said that on September 1 at about 11pm the gang members were drinking at a club located in Daun Penh district’s Chaktomuk commune in Phnom Penh.

He said that while at the club they met Mao Menghong, 19, sitting with two young women near their table.

He added that after the four suspects became drunk, they entered a verbal dispute with the victim and started beating him.

“During the argument, the group kicked the victim and beat him with beer bottles on his head and knocking him unconcious causing serious injuries,” he said. “After beating the victim unconscious, they fled.”

This is the same story reported here: newsworthy/topic56265.html
But no deaths were mentioned. Just serious injuries.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Sloppy reporting?
Khmertimes article has two separate incidents under one headline. The second being a deliberate motorcycle collision. That teenager’s death is almost being reported as a footnote to the other incident involving the beating.
