Cambodia's 'scamdemic' reputation scares off travelers from China
Without the chinese tourist, can Cambodia ever make a full recovery from covid??
"When [the travelers] applied for passports and visas, the police in China asked where they were going. When they found out they were going to Cambodia, the police said Cambodia is not safe," he said. "A hundred people out of the 240 didn't come."

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/hu ... r-AA1g1Z11The UN report says that because of its clandestine nature, the enormity of the online scam trafficking is hard to estimate, but cites “credible sources” indicating 120,000 are being forcibly held in Myanmar, and 100,000 in Cambodia. Tens of thousands may be impacted in Lao PDR, the Philippines and Thailand.
undreds of thousands of people are being forced into online criminality in south-east Asia by a network of brutal gangs, a new report by the United Nations has warned.
The investigation by the UN Human Rights Office turns a fresh spotlight on the shocking scale of a sophisticated cyber racket sweeping the globe, defrauding victims in schemes worth billions of dollars.
The scammers are often young professionals who are lured by the gangs with the promise of fake jobs before being imprisoned in compounds and coerced into cheating people all over the world through romance-investment scams, crypto fraud and illegal gambling.
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Chinese tourists are being scared off by Chinese gangsters.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Oh dear, and now we also have to worry about getting bitten by a monkey in Angkor park.

Plus the hit movie in China 'No More Bets' !!!!
It's the families back in China that often end up paying for people caught up in scams.
Maybe time Shianoukville put red carpet out for Barang!!! Many loved the place before they decided to put all eggs in one basket with Chinese.

I don't mind the Chinese tourists, can't stand the Chinese morons that live here.
Re: Cambodia's 'scamdemic' reputation scares off travelers from China
Who decided that though? Was it even a conscious decision, or did development of facilities catering to the Chinese just outpace everything else for a number of years?
I visited Sihanoukville twice this year and had a reasonably good time, as a barang. Not exactly red carpet, but I didn't feel unwelcome in any shape or form.

The deciding factor for many Barang to leave Shianoukville was the doubling of rents. The Chinese offered landlords inflated prices for rooms.
The mistake they made was not leaving an area where Barang businesses could operate and florish. It was 'All In' for Chinese. Signage , restaurants etc all changed overnight.
It has failed badly.
Now to hear Chinese are fearful of Shianoukville must be very concerning for those invested in the ' New Macau' dream. ( nightmare)!!!!!!.

Chinese government policy now is to limit and control gambling trips by its citizens. They will be directed to Macau when they can go at all.Plan B wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 10:40 am The deciding factor for many Barang to leave Shianoukville was the doubling of rents. Tourism to places where gambling is illegal will be OK, eg Thailand, although with the CNY going down they are not too keen on foreign trips of any kind atm.
Siem Reap area will be OK when it is organised tours with no chance of popping down to PP or SHV for a flutter.
SHV either has to build its non-Chinese gaming market, or it has to do a complete gaming ban and try to get Chinese beach and shopping tourists.
