China's clean energy EV vehicle ghost graveyards
Wow!
Bicycle graveyards @ 12.01
Summary @ 12.25
Exploding car battery @ 10.37In a factory in Chongqing, China, tens of thousands of clean energy vans sit abandoned, covered in a thick layer of dust, rendering their original appearances unrecognizable.
Recently, aerial footage has surfaced of vast grassy fields in Hangzhou littered with thousands of clean energy vehicles. Some of them are so buried that only their rooftops are visible.
Over the past few years, there has been a surge in these abandoned clean energy vehicles across various regions in China, ranging from a few hundred to tens of thousands. These so-called "graveyards" not only mar the landscape but also represent immense waste and environmental pollution.

If it sounds too good to be true…
That video reports vehicles being manufactured to achieve subsidies, and resulting in substandard construction, and basically hulks with no batteries. It’s quite incredible, yet not entirely surprising. Anyone who has been involved in an industry that has any Chinese presence will be aware of their wasteful nature.
As for the fields of unused or abandoned new vehicles, the risks?
Degraded tyres
Compromised structures
Compromised electrical systems
If there are any batteries present- disposal and replacement.
It’s no wonder there’s little uptake.
Between this waste, and the recent Fremantle Highway car-carrier fire, I wonder how many years of carbon offsetting and emissions restrictions have been negated? They’re already into scraping to achieve targets, as evidenced by the whole diesel emissions fiasco.
