Gang of Nine Cambodians Charged with Illegal Detention

Cambodia News (Svay Rieng): On 26 August, 2023, the Criminal Office of the Svay Rieng Provincial Gendarmerie authorities sent nine Cambodian suspects to the provincial court on charges of illegal detention and aggravated detention in Bavet City, on the border with Vietnam.
The court appearance follows the arrest of the nine gang members by the Bavet City Gendarmerie Local Force on 23 August at Ta Beb village and in front of Thai Ang Guesthouse, Bavet Kandal village, Bavet Commune, Bavet City, Svay Rieng Province.

The nine suspects* who were arrested:

1. An Dollar, a 28-year-old male farmer from Phum Rolous, Khum Boeung Touk, Teuk Chhou District, Kampot Province.
2. Phan Ravy, a 30-year-old male online worker from Toul Kandol village, Chikor commune, Tbong Khmum district, Tbong Khmum province.
3. Reth Song, a 30-year-old male taxi driver from Prek Phav Village, Teuk Laak Commune, Prey Nob District, Preah Sihanouk Province.
4. Lay Tiet, a 50-year-old male farmer from Prek Phav Village, Teuk Laak Commune, Prey Nob District, Preah Sihanouk Province.
5. Sok Chenda, a 26-year-old male online worker from Bavet Kandal village, Bavet commune, Bavet city, Svay Rieng Province.
6. Vuthy Songly, a 20-year-old male online worker from Sangkat Boeung Salang, Khan Toul Kork, Phnom Penh.
7. Sroeun Sruoch, a 27-year-old male guest from Toul Kandol village, Chikor commune, Tbong Khmum district, Tbong Khmum province.
8. Tep Phanit, a 31-year-old male bus driver from Bavet Kandal village, Bavet commune, Bavet city, Svay Rieng province.
9. Fam An Phoeuk, a 24-year-old male factory worker from Bavet Kandal village, Bavet commune, Bavet city, Svay Rieng province.
* NOTE: For some reason, one of the suspects does not appear in the photos.

Confiscated evidence includes:
- 10 mobile phones
- 2 cars
- 3 flashlights
- 1 wooden stick
- 1 knife
- 1 gram of drugs
- 1 package of drug paraphernalia.

Currently, the suspects and exhibits have been sent to Svay Rieng Provincial Court to continue with the procedure according to the law.
