"Kitthy Pandit" is probably a better pronunciation, but Khmer people have a hard time distinguishing between the letters "b" and "p".

Khmer has a 3rd phoneme somewhere in between the English "b" and "p" sounds. So its more that (coupled with no standardised form of transliteration), English just doesn't represent Cambodian properly yet.
