Cambodia News, (Kep Province): The police officer of the Office of Road Traffic of Kep Provincial Commission said that there was a train accident which happened at 5:20 am on August 14, 2023, at Damnak Chang Eur Village, Sangkat Prey Thom, Kep City.
The same official said that two men reportedly suffered minor injuries: Kong Sorn, a 61-year-old male, and Preap Sovath, male, 30 years old, both living in Phnom Penh.

Prior to the incident, the train was traveling on the tracks with a large tank carrying fuel when it fell off the tracks at the PKA 148 point in Damnak Chang Eur village. The local people then flocked to the accident scene to collect the fuel that was leaking from the tank, regardless of the danger to their lives.

The authorities called on the people to be careful about the risk to themselves, because leaking fuel is very dangerous in case of fire breaking out.

They were lucky that none among them had the brilliant idea to take a little cigarette break on site.

Happens often enough in Africa.

1. May 6, 2019, Niger: At least 76 people die in an explosion near the airport of the capital Niamey. Most of the victims were trying to collect fuel flowing from the overturned truck when the blast occurred.

2. October 6, 2018, Democratic Republic of Congo: At least 53 people are killed when an oil tanker collides with another vehicle and catches fire on a highway west of the capital Kinshasa.

3. November 17, 2016, Mozambique: At least 93 people are killed when an oil tanker carrying petrol explodes in the west of the country. Hundreds were trying to siphon off the fuel at the time.

4. September 16, 2015, South Sudan: At least 203 people are killed and 150 injured as people try to recover fuel from an oil tanker following a road accident west of the capital Juba.

6. July 12, 2012, Nigeria: At least 104 people are killed as they try to recover fuel from a petrol tanker following an accident in the southern River State.

7. July 2, 2010, DR Congo: At least 292 people are killed in a petrol tanker blast in the eastern village of Sange. Some victims were trying to recover fuel after the accident; others were watching a World Cup football match nearby.

8. October 9, 2009, Nigeria: At least 70 people are killed in the southeastern Anambra state after a petrol tanker explodes and the flames engulf several other vehicles.

9. January 31, 2009, Kenya: Flames engulf a crowd scooping fuel when a tanker overturns near Molo, northwest of the capital Nairobi, killing some 122 people.

You beat me to it...
What a lot of people don't realise is that, especially with gasoline/petrol, it's not really the liquid you need to worry about, it's the vapour

A common misconception that diesel cannot burn or explode.
The flash point of diesel is around 125°F (52°C), while gasoline has a flash point of about -45°F (-43°C).

I never mentioned that it couldn't explode or burn (I've never head anybody claim diesel doesn't burn)

Used to throw 10l buckets of diesel on our halloween bonfires as little kids.

It would initially damen the flames, then produce a massive wall of flame and a huge black diesel smoke mushroom cloud. Good times

Try that with 10l of petrol and one would get burned to a cinder
