Increased Cambodian Participation in Scouts and Guides

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

As planned, the Cambodian national scout leaders will have meetings with leaders of the Korea Scout Association, the Secretary General of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement, and the Director of the Asia-Pacific Regional Office; participate in the official opening ceremony of the 25th World Scout Jamboree; and draw experience from the event.

It is the sixth time that Cambodian Scouts have joined the international event, and on July 30, Cambodia dispatched 47 young scouts to join the event.

Organised by the World Organisation of the Scout Movement, the World Scout Jamboree is the world's largest youth camp, held every four years.
Tens of thousands of young people and leaders from 150 countries share culture, experience, and friendship and put concrete global citizenship into practice.

Cambodia to host 39th Girl Guides World Conference
Neang Sokunthea | Publication date 03 August 2023 | 21:27 ICT
Pich Chanmony, general commissioner of the Girl Guides Association of Cambodia (GGAC), highlighted the increased efforts of the GGAC delegates that led to a successful vote-gathering campaign at the 38th conference.

The event took place in Cyprus from July 26-31, culminating in Cambodia being awarded the rights to host the 39th World Conference of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 2026.

Speaking at a press conference at Phnom Penh International Airport upon her return from Cyprus, Chanmony was eager to share the good news.

“There were many factors that contributed to GGAC’s success,” she explained. “Our working group was resolute in our mission. We gained strong support from GGAC members and, crucially, the Cambodian public. This culminated in our significant achievement”.

Chanmony underscored the advantages of hosting the World Conference, which brings together representatives from 169 nations.

She recalled how, upon the announcement in Cyprus that Cambodia would be the host of the 39th World Conference of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 2026, each participating country proudly hoisted the Cambodian flag. To her, this act demonstrated their increased awareness and understanding of Cambodia.

Chanmony mentioned that the World Conference occurs every three years, with members of the WAGGGS sending youth representatives.
