Can't you just act like DAN?
Re: What Is The World Coming To?
Pantomime, drag and weird and outlandish drag acts are not the problem. The issue at the heart of all of these protests at drag story times is the over sexualization of young children that is prevalent in schools. The following tweet highlights what schools are allowing very young children access to.
Now this raises a very valid point. What does society deem acceptable for a 5 year old?
Reading excerpts from some of these books, and displaying images will land you with a public indecency charge if you do it in a public space but apparently its fine inside a public school. Parents in the UK have run into stony silence when trying to get access to course material. Not for science, maths or the like but only for the sex ed. stuff. Why is that? Why would they deny access to the material from the sex ed courses?
Now, if we accept that society is ever changing and many of us here have witnessed these changes over the course of our lives, where is it going?
Well, many are worried this trend will ultimately lead to the lowering of the age of consent and the societal acceptance of relationships with young children. Is that really where we want society to go?
They should be less concerned with making 5 year olds aware of stuff like anal sex and more concerned with lowering the number of teen pregnancies.

It’s been a while since I was at school, but I recall biology classes having relevant material when it came to discussion about human reproduction.
If that and similar material were to be covered by the regs quoted in the tweet, in a heavily puritanical manner, then it would not be a stretch to expect otherwise educational, clear photographs of human anatomy to be deemed sexually explicit, if that’s the agenda. It seems to have the potential to be a very broad, sweeping comment which hasn’t really kept up with the times.
Once upon a time in the west, there was an element of sex education in schools. At least, in the UK. I had to laugh, though, as it was rather tame compared to the mags on sale on the top shelf in the news agents.
Yet, despite those paltry efforts, several girls that I dated over the years have had some bizarre ideas about how it all works.

Re: What Is The World Coming To?
I don't know what age is appropriate to tell kids about the birds and the bees - I grew up in the country where seeing cows, sheep, dogs etc humping, then giving birth is a matter-of-fact thing, that's how it works. I don't think it hurts kids to know this, or that we work the same way but I don't remember ever being taught it in school, although I suppose I was at some point.
Kids these days though have smartphones and tablets, I have no doubt they're seeing a lot of actual porn - much harder stuff than we grew up with - at very young ages. I actually read somewhere that it's becoming a problem, with boys growing up with unrealistic ideas about sex just because of their easy access to porno vids, so maybe teaching them in a healthy way is a good thing. If it's at a much younger age than we were taught about those things, it might be because the world has changed and kids are being exposed to these things anyway.
I don't know what that school in Virginia was showing the kids, but without more context that tweet sounds like alarmist hyperbole to me. One man's facts of life are a Christian fundamentalist's daily reason to get outraged.

Re: What Is The World Coming To?
I have been sidetracked by this thread a little as I have been doing some digging and most of the books that are coming up are aimed at young teenagers. There doesn't appear to be many aimed directly at very young children. I think the issue, from the parents perspective, is that these books are on display and could be accessed by children younger than the intended audience. I am thus moving my views slightly as the content of the banned books that I have looked at appear nothing more than stories about teenagers exploring their sexuality and maybe it is overly prudish parents that are fanning the flames a little.
That said, I am still against the sexualization that some primary/kindergarten teachers are instilling in their students. Secondary school is fine, 11 - 18, but younger than that then, no.

If you look at some of the strange ‘mongering’ type threads that crop up from time to time, it’s clear that respect for others, and knowledge of the ‘facts of life’ have been kept separate from each other.Random Dude wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 12:56 pm I don't know what age is appropriate to tell kids about the birds and the bees

Ah! Respect. Isn’t that one of the casualties in trying to satisfy a very small minority of deluded people in need of help, at the expense of common sense.?

Could go on forever with this crap..
And these videos are from the states, but the Irish video isn't the only one from other countries in the west.
If you don't know, and you don't care, you're long lost.
