Authorities looking for source of gold smuggled into Vietnam
Buth Reaksmey Kongkea / Khmer Times
Cambodian authorities are now looking for the source of the 19kg gold that Vietnamese authorities seized last week from Cambodian traders at the border.

Colonel Pov Theng, the deputy chief of the anti-economic crime department in the Ministry of Interior, said that import or export of gold without licence or authorisation from the National Bank of Cambodia is illegal and prohibited.

According to Col Theng, two Cambodian businessmen were detained by Vietnamese border police on July 25 and had 19 kilograms of gold worth more than $1.2 million confiscated.

He said that the two Cambodians, one of them 60 years old and the other 22 years old, were apprehended after smuggling the gold illegally on a Vietnamese fishing boat on the Mekong River in Vietnam’s An Giang province.bordering Kandal province.

Vietnamese authorities alerted Cambodian authorities after the arrests, he said.

Col Theng said the men were detained and the gold seized because it had been transported into Vietnam without a licence from the appropriate Cambodian authorities.

He added that the two suspects are being held by the Vietnamese authorities to facilitate investigations.

“This is not the first time our police have received reports about gold smuggling from Cambodia to Vietnam.

Better to take a car when smuggling gold. At least you can carry it while running from the police, swimming however..

What's the price difference between gold in Cambodia and Vietnam?

I can't see why someone would risk that much value on a $100 boat operated by twats that ran away.

I looked it up. Today's prices:
In Vietnam 1G of 24k is $61.70
In Cambodia 1G of 24k is $60.31

So a potential profit of $26,600

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Well in my I experience gold smugglers are not the smartest individuals. They should all be rounded up and put in prison.
